Submariner price in NYC
Hi guys
First post on here. I've decided to buy myself a Steel Rolex Submariner date. I'm travelling to NYC next month and wondered if anyone knew how much I would have to pay for one in the Rolex store on 5th Av ? Perhaps there is no saving to be had and I'm as well to purchase from my local dealer ? Thanks in advance Steve D |

Personally--I would buy on LNIB on TRF--better value--there are some well respected sellers right here---check it out and save the money!

Welcome! The Diamond (Jewelry) District in Manhattan is a great place to window shop, but like Las Vegas, the Pawn stars Shop, other places that cater to tourists, it can be an expensive place to purchase. I have seen used, non Newman SS Daytona's with $15,000 price tags, 6 year old SS Subs for $5K. You can do much better on our forum.

If it's your first and you are set on buying from an AD, for the thrill, the confidence or whatever reason, I would AVOID NYC AD's. There is Tourneu and William Barthman and one other... they are all (in my opinion) over priced. There are so many people in NYC with cash that they don't have to discount to move product. They were over $1,000.00 more than the best deal I could get on my SS/P Yachtmaster, and wouldn't budge to match a price from an AD out of state. They know that the next guy behind me will buy it.
I think you can get a better deal at a local AD with less turnover and more "eager" to make a sale. Keep us posted please. If you do AD or on here, best of luck... the SS Sub is the "perfect" watch!! -Pete

I second that...especially with a watch like the Submariner, you won't get much discount at the store with SS Rolex sport watches. You can find the same watch even BNIB here for much less and your watch will probably not lose as much value. Btw, why buy in NYC anyways?? You would have to pay a huge tax and since you're living in Scotland, there's no point in building an AD relationship here in the US. |

The Rolex building on 5th avenue is offices and a service center. I don't think they have a store. You'd have to go to one of the authorized dealers - Wempe on 5th Ave, or Tourneau on both Madison Avenue and 57th street (I suggest Wempe as the better experience).

I was walking with a friend of mine in nyc around financial district. Walked into an AD... was checking out their DS. They were quick to discount 15% to make a deal. The SA offered the same discount for the GMT2c. I really can't remember which AD it was... I say just ask for a discount anyways... what do you have to lose? Worse case scenerio... you walk away come back to TRF and buy one for less!! Good luck~ Its definitely nice to buy in a store for the experience.

Hi guys
Thanks for the replys ..... I wasn't thinking AD for the thrill or experience propably confidence comes into it though .... however I feel I might struggle to get much of a discount at my local AD (which is in Aberdeen Scotland) for the same reasons PeteNYC13 mentioned regarding NYC AD. Just have to figure out what all these acronyms mean now (BNIB , LBNIB) I'm pretty set on a SS Sub tho also looking at a lady Oyster Perpetual or Lady Datejust as It's the Mrs 40th hence the trip to NYC ( this gives me the perfect excuse for the SS Sub I've had my eyes on for ages ) Steve |

BNIB = Brand New In Box
LBNIB = Like Brand New In Box It's taken me about three months to figure out some of these acronyms... then I see a new one that I never heard of and get to start over. :-) -Pete

As far as buying on 47th St., I would much sooner purchase from any of the reliable sellers here on this site. Enjoy NYC!

Thanks for that ....thats a couple of acronyms sorted I'll check Wempe out ......
While trawing around the forum posts I'm now seeing that the SS Sub is to be updated very shortly with some case changes, updated clasp ,bracelet etc. I'm wondering if it may be worh waiting for the new model...is it likely to carry a higher price tag ? I do really like the maxi dial, I know the LV model has this but I have to have a black bez and I dont fancy changing bez out myself. |

As said, Diamond District is pretty decent for window shopping, BUT every once in a while, you can grab a good deal. It's all about bartering. Wanted to see what I could ge for my money last week and managed to get a guy down to $2500 for a '96 sub. Band was saggy as hell and the insert could have done with replacing, but if you have cash in hand, it's to your advantage.
Here's what else was available (after bartering) - all of these had no box or papers, but the unit was in sound condition Pepsi GMT $3200 Coke GMT II $3000 Explorer II $3200 Milgauss - $4500 Sea Dweller - $4500 Considerable saving from paying Sterling yea? These places aren't the most reputable though. Watches are all authentic, but don't expect to be able to go back there is a problem before you leave for home, unlike if you buy from a reputable reseller. Most offer a 1yr warranty at minimum. |

cheers for the info defo need box , papers and buy from a known good source tho as I'm no expert and wouldn't want to pay thousands for a $200 replica
After trawling through the posts and pics of the LV edition I'm very surprised how quickly the green of LV is becoming appealing to me ...... also after reading through the bezel changeout guide it seems fairly straight forward to switch.....anyone know the cost of a genuine parts black bezel ? |

The latest 16610 steel subs are V serials.
The speculation I've seen here is that the new version of the steel sub will be at least $1000 more than the current one (current US MSRP is $6000 for the 16610). Some dealers are out of stock on the 16610 now as apparently the production has been discontinued, so my guess is it would be hard to get a discount at an AD now . . . it was certainly possible to get 10% off not long ago at some US ADs though. |
