Which White Face.....?
I sold my GMT IIc today, as I'm now on the hunt for something less Classic Rolex looking for the office and distinctively different to my DSSD, which I love but no matter which way you slice it, looks a bit odd with shirt cuffs IMO.
With the above said I have narrowed my probable selection to two watches that meet the criteria and apart from both having a white face are themselves also very different in terms of look, feel and price………The EXP II or the AP RO 15300. (also a 39mm case) I actually used to own the EXP II but sold it at a time when it was simply excess to my needs. Here’s a shot below of it on my wrist and further down 2 x shots of its formidable competitor (pics from web)…….love to hear your thoughts on this one. Have you considered a white dial Milgauss? I think if you see it in person, you'll see the appeal, it is like nothing else on the market. Definitely not 'typical' Rolex. I know the lightning second hand is a turn-off for some, but it DOES grow on you. Issue is - after the DSSD you will feel the EXPII being a bit too light, and the RO too simple. Both are beautiful watches without a doubt, but give the Milgauss a shot as well.

The 15300 is a nice change of pace.

I am a little nervous though about the size difference on the EXP II as it was one of the reasons I let it go prior but not so much on the RO as the 39mm wears larger........I have tried it on. Last edited by Dylan Wade; 10 February 2010 at 12:33 AM.. Reason: forgot to add |

If you're getting it for office wear, and trying to offset the DeepSea, then I might go with the ROO. Looks more like a dress watch, and will do nicely under a cuff--but it's still a great tool.
Although I love my Explorer-II--it gets over 85% of my wrist time. If I only had one watch, this one would be it.

Of those I prefer the Expy II hands down! Have you considered the White dialed DJ II? I looks stunning in person!

Too similar looking to my DSSD and the bezel just began to feel odd with office attire, along with its very obvious ROLEX presence that I'd prefer to now steer away from in office and business life
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the watch itself, in fact the GMT IIc is the very 1st Rolex that I drooled over and wanted to get... |

The white Explorer is beautiful, but I think that if you want something a bit dressier, the Milgauss would be the one I would go with. Both are great watches, but you just don't see very many Milgauses (or is that Milgeese?) walking around, making it just a bit more interesting and exclusive. You won't go wrong with either, that is a certainty
Just my thoughts, for what their worth

I think I'd wait for Basel 2010, to see if Rolex rolls out the updated Explorer II. Also, may I offer another option, the Vacheron Constantin Overseas:

I'll give you that one on the orange second hand Perhaps then the DJ II as mentioned above. Good luck with whatever you choose.

If I where to compare an AP to a Rolex, I'd look more at the Daytona (white) vs the white AP RO chrono. They are such wonderful watches. What would I pick, out of those two? I do not honestly know... but I guess I'd go Rolex. What would I pick, out of your choices... The AP, but that is easy to say since I already have the ExII white. Would I give up the Ex for an AP? No. Good luck. Post pictures when you have decided. Best, A |

My choice would be the Explorer II or the DJ2 both with white dial. I would wait though and see what Basel 2010 bring, as there could be an updated Explorer II out soon.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I will wait to see what Basal unveils and if no changes to EXP II will probably go ahead and snag a SS RO 15300. Time to wait........

from memory, the SS VC Overseas Auto is about re same as the SS AP RO. Actually the RO is slightly more.
I have tried both and personally would prefer the VC. It just feels more weighty.... But very comfortable. The RO is very nice, love the dial, but the 39mm size is abit on the small side. |

Both beautiful, I think the Rolex is more sporty, but the AP is very nice.
Good Luck!! |
