MY Daytona after 3 weeks

Guys i just received a call of the watchmaker that is "fixing"my daytona... fisrt let me tell you a little history of the Daytona i have

i was craving for this wonderfull look of the daytona, the WG silver dial with arabic number and red hands, but i dint have the money to get one so my watchmaker gave me an "idea", to get a SS and have a dial change... well i dint have the money for the SS either, so i sold my Tag Heuer Carrera, and i was saving some money, after a while the watchmaker called and he offered me a WG daytona but it needed some restoration, the good thing of he offering it to me is that i dont need to pay him cash, i can pay him in with different payments, so for me it was a good deal, he got a silver dial with red hands, the watch was the one i wanted...
after a week on my wrist the movement just stoped! so i took it to him and now it has been 3 weeks that he has it, i really miss the watch.
my mistake was that i dint check if the watch is a genuine watch, though i did saw the movement and it looks genuine, but i dont know about the rest...

can i take it to a AD for authenticity check? he just changed the dial, but i dont know if he is tricking me with the whole watch, the only thing i know is genuine is the movement, but i dont really know about the rest... when i had it on my wrist, i dint care much about it since the movement was real, but now i having seconds thoughts...

well he is reputable, he is not certified, but he does service the rolex, he serviced my sub, cause i dint want to pay US$300 for just a service, so he does it for half price... though i know if i want to sell my Subdate i would have to take it to a AD before i sell it... lots of people take their Rolex to him for regular service

Sounds like he's doing right by you. I would be cool with him until you got the watch back. Take it to an AD and have it looked at to make sure everything is cool. Then if you have issues with it again I would let him hear it

lovely pic Victor!

back to the topic... as already mentioned earlier, i also agree to wait for the watch to come back and discuss this issue with your watch maker before taking it into an AD

Are you sure your watchmaker represented this as a WG Daytona? I can't be 100% sure (fuzzy picture) but it appears your picture is of a SS Daytona with swapped dial. The bezel isn't correct for a WG Daytona - your's appears to have the tick marks of the SS model and not the triangle/circumferential line of the WG model.

it has the triangles... just like the WG version, but is not what i'm worried about... what i'm worried is about me wearing a fake one...

A second opinion from a different watchmaker would be a good idea.

V, Not trying to pry into your personal finances, but was the price you agreed to buy the watch for match-up to what a WG Daytona would sell for used?

Obviously this does not mean it's real or fake, but I would honestly think if your relationship with this person is on the up and up, the price would be competitive with the market!

Matt

we dint discuss a final price.. i gave him 2,500 in down payment, telling him that i dont have more money and he sopose to tell me the final price later... though i'm selling a couple of watches in his store, so he has 2 watches (not big deal) and 2500

so he has arround 3000... i guess is cheap..

You bought a watch that sells on the resale market for 17k and you don't know the final price and all you paid was 2500.00 to date. Well, either this guy is your rich uncle or you bought a fake.

I think my english is not that good, let me explain myself again, I gave him 2500 but we have not talked about the final price, he has 2 watches in his store selling it, the watches are not a big deal so let's guess that he gets a 500 for both, he has 3k for downpayment, what we have not discuss is the final price..
So, now I'm having 2nd thoguhts about it

Sorry to hear this, hope it works out, and your Daytona is genuine.

However a 24.000 euro watch for a 2500 dollar downpayment? Sounds too good to be true. I'm not saying it is.

2 things...1)Have authorized Rolex watchmaker authenticate the watch
2)Agree on the final selling price ASAP

Sorry Victor but it all sounds wrong to me.

Do you have the boxes/papers to compare the serial numbers, is it a rehaut branded version? Can you take a good look at the hallmarks and clasp markings?

Let's assume it's real for a minute. The asking price should be $15,000 at the lowest. Is this the sort of figure you are expecting to pay?

Hate to say it, but this guy might have put you together. The fact that the movement stopped completely would be enough for me to back that deal out. Good luck to you.

My advice would be to give him that watch back and get your $2500 back.

No offense but I've never heard of a buyer or seller agreeing to a sale without a sale price. I also have doubts about this seller letting a genuine watch out of his possesion for $2500 and a couple inexpensive watches.
