Deal or No Deal?

I have been casually surfing online looking for a no-date Sub in true like-new condition with all boxes, tags, papers, books, etc., the "complete package", if you will. I thought I would only find newer models in this condition with all the goodies, but I also ran across an "U" serial number 14060. Complete package, "SWISS" dial, advertised as unworn condition. Priced at $3800.

Hard to find?

What do you all think?

Good deal?

Blaine

This is one pic of the watch:

Fairly rare to be that old in unworn condition. My feeling on price is $3000 - $3500 depending on whether it needs service or not.

It's a tad stout. I had a U 14060, granted it had no box or papers, however I sold it for $2850. It was in 90% condition

It is a bit expensive, if you ask me, and you have to remember that the 14060 has caliber 3000, whilst the current 14060M has the 3130.

The differences between the two calibers are minimal, but the 3000 is no longer in production. Some argue that the 3130 is a finer caliber, with its breguet hairspring, and some argue that the 3000 is a more sturdy caliber (some of the components are larger).

If you go for a 14060 I would recommend that you try to find a watch with a tritium dial, and tritium hands. Those will be of a slightly (not dramatic) higher interest for collectors. That would be my choice: Either a full set tritium dialled (and hands) 14060 or a LNIB 14060M for daily use.

On the picture you have one of the last 14060, that came with the first version of Luminova dials. It is a great watch, but I would pay less than USD 3800.

Best,

A

I agree - shop around. You can probably find better deals out there.

A little on the high side IMHO. In Canada you could probably find similar for about $3300USD give or take.
Shop around and it if does not matter to you compare with the 14060M models.

I wouldn't buy it, the dial is not the original one. Swiss means it is a service dial

"Swiss" dials were used during the changeover from Tritium to Luminova - 1998/99; so this is a correct dial for a "U" serial, although it is true that "Swiss" dials were used as service replacements for the trit dials too.. It is also the changeover time period for the 14060 to the 14060M, and so it is nice to confirm that, although I don't believe that either one is worth more than the other for that time period.

If this is indeed one with "all the goodies", and you want a museum quality, or mint watch in your collection - it might be worth the price, or at least worth negotiating a better price for and then hanging onto...

But then you would not want to wear it as then it would no longer be mint, and the value would suffer accordingly..

If you are looking for one to wear, then you should be able to find a good 14060 for under 3K....I wouldn't worry too much if it comes with goodies unless you are somebody who just likes that stuff............

I think it is priced a bit high--great looking classic though!
