question on condition of movement

Newbie here and not quite a WIS yet, but I got a question about this picture of a movement that I hope the trained eyes in this forum can help explain.

In the picture, a little to the left of the word ROLEX, you can see little scratch marks all around the edge of the center ring. Gold colored scratches. What does it mean? Normal or badly damaged?

Thanks in advance!

The mark is on part of the self winding module. It is possibly caused by failure of the winding rotor or it's axle at some point in time.. not uncommon for an older movement.

The plate is seldom replaced when the problem is repaired because it is simply a mark and can't affect the function..

With only one photo though, there is no way to tell what the condition of the movement currently is..

Thanks! It's the only picture available of the movement.

Well let me further say then that the rotor is sitting properly and if it was still broken it would be riding down low and contacting the bare spot.. If you look at the edge on the next plate down, you will see where it contacted that edge too..

The movement looks like it has been cleaned and repaired from that episode.... but this is just an opinion.........
