What Brown did for me...

I've been hanging out over on the Rolex board here, but with a recent visit from the Boys in Brown I thought I might poke my head in to say "hi".

Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics...any guesses? I'm excited!

You got a screw driver and Panerai box. I really like those. I made my Panerai box into a necklace charm for my wife, and gave the screwdriver to my best friend. Christmas was great for them!

Show us the new watch!

Well, I'm proud (ashamed?) to admit this isn't my first Panerai...if you'll indulge me a bit I'll give you my sob story:

Last year I decided that 2009 was finally going to be "my year" for getting a long-desired Panerai. I also decided that I wanted a 111 for a variety of reasons. I'd never actually seen ANY PAM in person, however that one seemed to "sing" for me the most. I scrimped and saved and then right about the time when I was still $500 or so shy of a pre-owned 111 a 005 came on the market. The seller said it was in 95% condition and had a few extra straps, and was within my budget. So, in a moment of haste and panic I bought it. When I received it I immediately was amazed at how much I liked the painted dial and logo (much more than I thought I would), however the condition was far from 95% so I did not feel I could keep it as I am a stickler when it comes to scratches, etc. I sold it and almost broke even, and ended up buying a BNIB K-series 111 from my good friend Gil.

I wore it for 1/2 of the year, however last fall after 2 1/2 years on the market we were finally able to sell our condo and buy a "real" house...well, my watch collection was the most valuable and fastest way to quick down payment cash, so unfortunately the 111 was lost in that fire sale. Since I found I didn't wear it as much in the summer (leather straps bug me in heat) I figured I'd just chalk it up to not being a Panerai guy, however I got the bug again recently and was offered a too-good-to-pass-up deal on a BNIB L-series 000 from Gil (being the good "repeat" customer that I am). :) I was able to swing it, and decided to go for it, even though it's basically blown my watch fund for the rest of the year (and probably then some).

So, to answer your question in a round-about way, I already have a few straps left over from last year, however I am "on the hunt" for a few more. I tend to buy cheaper ones as I like to have a few and also I seem to destroy them pretty effectively, so I will leave the OEM one unworn just in case.

Thanks! I hope to take some "real" pictures when I get it home tonight. Although I'm nervous to take off that bezel protector!
