I am currently lookn for a Datejust II or a nice Sub/date...gently used. Why am i being told that the " Newer " Rolex watches are lacking in quality compared to the older models? I have heard this numerous times in the past week....what gives?

Not sure that's a true statement. There are differences: which one is better is mostly subjective. There have been some reported failures on some of the watches (bezels/clasps failing), but they do produce a million watches a year....

Not really sure where you're hearing this but the quality is still there. Good looking durable watches as always!

Go for the Sub, a great piece!

I have heard storys about the GMT II but I dont think I have ever heard anything about the Datejust II or a nice Sub/date. But you have too love that Sub !!!

Thanx. Ya, i looove the subs, but my prob is i want them all lol! I`m not sure where the hates coming from on the newer models, but a Rolex is a Rolex in my book

Yeah supposedly a innovative company has to make improvements not regress. You should be safe with the newer models. Of course there is always the chance that there was a production error but it will be covered in the warranty. Rolex isn't part of the top 100 companies in forbes list for nothing.

The quality is just fine on the new ones - as for whether the old or new has a higher quality, I recommend you hold them in your hands and see for yourself. We can wax lyrical all day on here, but at the end of the day, it's what feels right to you

I've owned 3 Rolex watches in the last 25 years. My M series SS Sub is, without a doubt, the most accurate Rollie I've had. It gains a few seconds a day, and looses a few seconds when I take it off at night. (On it's side crown up) The SEL are really nice and the rehaut engraving and finish overall is super.('lative')

So, regardless of an isolated example of QC problems here and there, in my opinion the newer Rolexes are certainly as good, if not better than they've ever been.

I could not agree more. The quality has not changed but some of the materials have. ie. 904L steel for the newer models.

Just trying to educate myself so i dont get raped when i buy. I hate dealing with a jewlery salesman as much as a car saleman! Not to mention most jewlery is marked up 14000% lol.

Don't believe everything you hear! I think Rolex quality has improved with time - their watches now come with better crowns, clasps, bezels and bracelets. So IMO you have been misinformed!
