Long story short, I was walking in the neighborhood with my wife (UES Manhattan) and stumbled across a small shop FULL of antique items. The gentleman who owned the shop has been there for 29 years selling everything from bronze sculptures, to vintage watches , old paintings (even at Sotheby's) and everything in between. He has a case FULL of Rolex watches. He said he guarantees all his Rolex watches are authentic and will give me a week for each purchase to have them authenticated as i see fit. He DID have some fakes but immediately told me they were not real.

The thing is, some of these watches look extremely old and some look kind of old but in good condition. He even has a few Rolex dials. Hopefully the pics will explain a little better than I can. If you guys see anything worth purchasing here, PLEASE let me know.

FYI... I'm IN LOVE with the precision Rolex with black strap. Strap is not Rolex, but that's OK with me. Don't really care about the strap.

There are a few interesting watches in there. Depending on the prices, box & paper situation it may be worth a closer look. Just remember the older watches may need servicing, and replacement parts to get the full return. You may be better off buying a batch from him at a good price, and have them serviced, and resell. You could have a free Rolex by the time it's all said and done.

Also remember he knows what he has. You may catch him when he needs to free up some inventory. Good luck

I lived on the UES for a very long time... my opinion - there are very, very few gold mine finds to be had in Manhattan. If it has a value, they know it!
It's like a parking spot - if it looks good, there is a catch (it's a hydrant, a meter, a yellow stripe etc). Without knowing the price, it's hard to know if you are going to find a hidden gem.

Just my thoughts.

It's actually in the 70's... I appreciate the advice. I just think there is something to be had here. Just a feeling...

What's the name of the store? I don't know about the dial, it could have been redialed sometime in its life. But I'm not an expert.

And I can't wait to hear the update... Since I am no longer in the city, I can give away my secret. There is a tiny antique shop in the 50's on 2nd or maybe third. Lot's of nick knacks and some antique watches. Next time I am in the city I can try to get the exact location. Their window looks a lot like this and I thougth that may be where you found it. I had stopped in a few times but don't know enough about vintage Rolexes to know if it's a steal, fair price or a rip off.

You can always start slow and buy a couple and flip on ebay.
If you make money then it is good.
If you even out then it is your call.

George, if you haven't seen Central Watch Band you should take a look, I went there and saw some nice vintage Rolexes.

It looks like there is already some interest. If you can get the shop to give you a group deal, you may be able to make some $$ on this find!

I'm several thousand miles away but I'd say this is pretty good advice. Secondhand watch dealers - especially in Rolex - usually know exactly what they have on their hands. I'd urge you to be sceptical. Good luck!

To me nothing says authentic Rolex like a watch stand with sharpie marker identification. Just kidding, I don't know anything about any of those models, good luck finding some good deals!
