My small collection of fountain pens, just finished flushing them through so thought I would take a couple of photos.

Dave, what a lovely Collection! Is your Nakaya the Kuro-Temanuri finish? If so it looks like it has achieved what the makers intended by the darker coating becoming much more translucent. If it is and that is what it looks like I can't wait for my Portable writer to achieve the same finish, it's beautiful!

I know a lot of folks talk about the Sailor's being the Japanese Mont Blanc, seeing as you have both do you think that is a fair comment?

The finish is Aka-Temanuri (Redish red) Ian, I think my photography has darkened it down somewhat, your excellent article resulted in my purchase of this pen.

I have not been disappointed, the service from classic fountain pens was an absolute joy, and the pen just gives me that "feel good glow" when in use, it is so tactile I'm at a loss to describe the effect.

I really enjoy the Sailor, the feel of the pen when writing is quite different to the Mont Blanc in that it is a lot more "scratchy" but in a nice way though, it seems to give it a lot more feedback, I hope I have described this correctly and not done this superb pen an injustice, the only niggle I can find, is that the converter does not hold a great deal of ink, so refilling is more frequent, having said that, I quite enjoy the refilling process.

I don't need to use fountain pens at work, but do so, it gives me great pleasure and slows me down somewhat, which I find keeps my stress levels firmly in the calmer quarter of the scale, it also improves my handwriting considerably.

I've looked often at pens from each of these makers, but have yet to "pull the trigger." I guess I need to go take another look and peruse all the offerings. That should keep me busy this weekend...

Dave, I am so happy you found the same with John as I did and you describe the feeling of writing and owning a Nakaya prefectly! I had my hopes up there for a minute though with the colour Mind I have noticed over the year my pen has become more translucent. I have started to leave it out of it's kimono at home so that the effect increases. It is one of the many things I love about this pen, it is organic !

From what I have heard and from a brief go with a sailor I think your description is bang on! I think on the whole the Japanese nibs are more communicative with the paper where as I have found with Mont Blanc nibs they just glide effortlessly over the paper (both wonderful traits so it is nice to own both!) I have found the same with my Montegrappa which is a fine/medium but buttery smooth, I wonder if this is a European trait?

Your description as well as to why you use fountain pens is the same for me. I often get accused of being a romantic when I state that writing with a fountain pen is like meditation!..Hmm That gives me an idea

You wont be disappointed John, photography cant catch the really deep colours (colors), different tones and accents.

Thank you very much, I will be able to do some writing samples on Monday when I get back to the office, I am using Noodlers Blue/Black ink at the moment, I hope my photography will be able to pick out the beautiful rich colour.

I actually did the samples on Friday but left them at the office after the boss gave us an early finish, I didnt want to be injured in the rush.
