BOTH of which are for the early Plastic GMT...
n the later model of Sapphire GMT watches...

2. Ref 16760/16700...16710/1671x...(Sapphire Crystal).

Physical Dimensions:

Overall Outer Diameter....... = 37.7mm (+-)
Internal Diameter............ = 30.0mm (+-)
Width........................ = 7.7mm (+-)
Thickness.................... = 0.6mm (+-)

It also should be known that with regard to the Root Beer Insert (known to Rolex as Tigereye) comes in about 3-4 variants over the years. The example you have is the most desirable.

Much thanks fr yr info which is very useful to us.
I just bought one GMT 16700 E series(1990).
I checked the overall condition is good and found the benzel is still so new after such old years. I wonder whether this benzel is a aftermarket on or its original one.

I know this is an old thread, but I just had an insert with a so called top heavy 2 font (top right corner in the photo) verified by rsc in Singapore and they authenticated it as genuine.
So the statement that it's fake in one of the links posted by OP is not entirely true.

Below my 1978 - 1675 GMT (series 5.3xx.xxx) with original inlay of which the arrangement of the "1" n "8" in "18"fonts is extreme wide with a different / more balanced location of the dividing line between blue and red......

Moreover the "Orchi" dots can not fill the circle in the "6" and "16" entirely; whereas "my" dots fill these circles fully......
I see some more differences...... as the fatter numbers in my picture........etc.

REMARK / BTW: Orchi has a full Fat 4 (ref: 16610LV 2003 inlay) and I have a 1/2 Fat 4..........?

I wonder if anyone can explain the history of the GMT red/blue bezel insert backs. Why are some vintage inserts blue on the back and others red. Did they change from red to blue at a certain time or were they both manufactured during a certain period. Thanks so much. 🙏
