Weekend at Copley - Boston

Went to Boston to look at watches and pens. The MB sale was mostly on older, outdated, and less interesting models. I declined to purchase a pen this time; however, I couldn't resist their montblanc money clip (I have used a clip for many years). I don't normally go for fashion accessories as you're paying mostly for the Brand name - but this one got me. As you can see by the money left in my clip, I had none left for a new pen!

I talked with Kai a few times by phone as we tried to organize the purchase of a nice silver barley FP he was after, but I could not get the boutique to match the FPH price, so he passed. It was nice speaking with you Kai (2careless).

Also searched high and low for Clarefontaine paper, but could not find a sheet in Boston! So I got a nice Moleskin book as pictured.

Got a chance to try on my grail watch, an A. Lange Sohne moonphase, but at $32,000 it'll be a while before that stays on my wrist.

All in all, a nice little weekend.

Chris

Thanks Chris. It was nice talking with you too.
Pity you couldn't find what you want to get (same to me), but looks like you've got a very nice money clip.
Congrats!

Congratulations, Chris! That is a nice, stylish clip and makes a fine accessory. Enjoy the Moleskine notebook. That is the type I have used for quite a while now and find they work well with my Pilot fine nib Capless pens. From your example, it looks like it works well with your MB, too!

As much as I really like the Moleskines, and I think you will too, the Clairefontaine notebook that Ian sent really is some very smooth writing paper and a step up IMHO. If I hadn't been provided the opportunity, I would be quite satisfied and never have known what I was "missing".

In the end, it sounds like you had an enjoyable trip to the big city!

Chris, I'm glad you had a nice trip and didn't come away empty handed. That's a beautiful money clip you bought so enjoy. I too use money clips but I carry way to much crap in my pockets so a nice money clip like that would get ruined. If you ever want a utilitarian type money clip check out The Money Clamp. Their money clips are priced from $15.00 to a little over $100.00

I stopped by the Copley store this weekend with a buddy and ended up pulling the trigger on this Boheme RB at 50% off. I have always admired the Boheme line, but never pulled the trigger (50 off was too good to pass).

A few quick shots:

Congrats and great find! VetteBandit, was it just me or was the majority of the items on sale were fountain pens. There weren't many offering of rollerball or ballpoint variation at the Mont Blanc store here in Houston, Texas.

Congrats on great scoring at MB!
I wonder if MB boutique will give out a list of sale items and allow to place an order over the phone etc.
I'm no where near MB boutique.

Joji, you might want to call one of their stores to see what's available and maybe they can ship it to you if you pay by charge card. My newest pen is being shipped into the store I shop at and will be available thursday!!!

I think the sales were dependent on inventory levels at the particular location. There were a lot of FPs, but it also didnt help me that I had to scan the actual list at the store to see what was on sale and what wasnt. They were not very informative about what was and what wasnt otherwise.

Phone Orders Were Easy

I called a couple of the boutiques and placed orders over the phone without any issues. The sales staff was very helpful, courteous, and the items are in the mail.

VetteBandit, it's interesting that the Houston location have all of the sales items already centralized in the pen trays. There were a total of 4 or 5 big trays from what I saw and was able to select from. There were two unique lists that the sale associates were sharing since each list contain list of items and prices that were different from the other one. It was kinda annoying when a sales associate would take the list and we would have to wait to find what was the discount on the item we were interested in. One would think that they would make a copy for each sale associate.

After inquiring about almost all the pens and their prices (I'm sure I was annoying them LOL), but I'm sure they took it like a champ with the amount of items I'd end up purchasing from them. It looks as if all of the Meisterstucks were 40% off, Boheme were mostly 50% off except for the 100 year models, Starwalker were 40% off and the limited edition pens that were part of the sales were 40% off. Leather goods were 50% off and cuff links varies between 40%-50%.

Ian, there is a service provider called comgateway
www.comgateway.com

It allows one to shop in US, they provide a US postal address and they can also collate all the goods you buy into one shipment to your home country. Of course they charge you a forwarding costs but for us Aussies this cost is way cheaper than buying locally.

I've been using it for a while now to work around all these "I am only allowed to sell to US residents etc" type of BS.

I have always wanted a MB key ring.

But my gosh!!!!

Just can't justify it when I could almost purchase a nice MB pen for the same price.

Nevertheless! I envy you in a good way on that money clip! Congratulations on a great acquisition!

From what I was told by the MB sales associates, the sale happens twice a year. The next one will be in the Oct/Nov timeframe.
