Chronograph movement
Would leaving the chrono movement running all the time affect the accuracy of the real time on a Daytona?
I know it's prob just unnecessary wear and tear! |

I would think the extra chrono features running would cause a minute amount of wear, and a small amount of friction to the gear train. This would hava a longterm impact on the springs, jewels, and gears. Of course, these functions are there to be used, but whenever a complication is added to the movement, there is added friction, and more energy used to turn the gears. How long to make an impact on the watch, who knows, but there is definately a differance in the two.

Leaving your chrono running won't effect the Daytona's timekeeping ability.

On a related note, does COSC test the accuracy of all watch complications, or just timekeeping?

movements are loaded into magazines like a machine gun. They are then all wound quite fast by a machine, that's why the winding rotors are removed.Movements are then tested in various position's temperatures all linked and photographed by time lapse photography for the duration of the test.Passed ones get certified failed ones sent back to Rolex.Who then re-oil regulated and ship back to the COSC for re-testing.

Also Daytona's are tested in chrono on mode full wind and then half wind. Then chrono mode off full wind then half wind. To check amplitudes and delta's in 10 positions aggregate. This is done to make sure chrono function doesn't have any inherent defects which would affect normal running of the watch. Rikki
