LED TVs

I've been waiting some time now for one of my LCD TVs to go and this morning, the first LCD TV I bought 5 years ago went. I picked up one of those new LED TVs, 40", 120Mz for the bad living room LCD TV.
**Day and Night** If your on the fence about spending for a LED TV, they are 100% better than the LCD TVs. Still not as good as a plasma I have, but way better thana LCD TV.

Jim, how is the angle-viewing ? Do you have to be more or less directly in front to keep the picture from looking goofy ?

That last sentence proves to me that you know your video equipment...What Plasma are you running..Btw I will never buy into the 3D crap ever. I dont like 3d at the movies and I'm certainly not going to watch it in my home...

Samsung. They had Samsung and a Sony. I just didn't like the look of the Sony, a little too busy up front. To be honest, I was in a real hurry and I guarantee you that was the fastest sale that sales guy ever had.

The sales guy took me over to a 3D TV he had on display and for a second I thought "what the hell, why not", but I walked away immediately. Not for me.

which led tv is this? is this the edge lit led or the back lit led? led is not waaay better than lcd. it's just mainly for the thickness. the best led tv i've seen so far is the 800 series sammy (240hz). definitely love how thin it is. looks good.

I using a 42" AKAI, 1080I monitor on my home theater setup, but I'm the only one who can set it up because of all the input changes whenever I use it. I bought it 5 years ago and I'm getting tired of having to set it up when somebody comes over. I'm thinking maybe some time in the not too distant future of picking up one of those huge LED TVs to replace it. I watched "24" on the LED TV, which has got to be the darkest show on TV and while not as good as the plasma for contrast, the LED TV was a big improvement over the LCD TVs I have.
The LED is also only an inch thick and weighs nothing compared to the plasma.

I'm sure the older crowd here knows 3D has been around long ago and funny it's being revisited again and 3D glasses at $150 a pop is a joke the price is higher than a plasma vs led.

I got to tell you, the contrast on this LED is way better then the LCDs I have. Don't get me wrong, I bought these LCDs 5 years ago when they first came out. The LED I bought is backlit.

I don't blame you Hector. I'm only replacing the LCDs I have when they go bad.
Now for the bad news, the sales person was telling me that now that LCDs have been out for about 5 years, he said, they are now starting to see the LCDs break that are about 5 years old.

I have to say, I am completely sold on my Samsung Plasma. I really can't imagine anything better.

We have a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV for the living room, and that thing has absolutely fantastic picture quality. I also have a 37" Panasonic LCD TV in my room that is nice, but sometimes the colors appear too dark. Panasonic has been a very good brand to us, so we have always been buying Panasonic for many years.
When I bought my new LCD TV at best buy, I also checked out the new LED TV's as well. They were VERY pricey ( I believe something like $3500+ for a 42" model).
Maybe when the prices come down in the future I would consider getting one.
Also, the new 3D TV's are the next "best thing to have" that should be coming out soon as well.
Congrats on your new TV. She looks wonderful !
Mike

The main reason I got the Samsung was because I already have 2 other Samsungs and you can't get enough remotes. The last thing I want to do is get off my lazy butt to change a channel or adjust the volume because I lost the remote.
The funny thing was that the Samsung and Sony were side by side, both of similar specs and they were priced the same. I always thought Sonys came at a premium in price.

All LED TVs are LCD TVs, this is a big misconception largely driven by the marketing engines from the electronic companies. LCD screens, unlike plasma or OLED/AMOLED, LCD's are not light emitting, LCD screens need a light source from the back or from the sides. The majority of the LCD screen still, are lit by CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps), these are actually just miniaturized TL tubes widely used in office buildings. Recently many of the LCD manufacturers have switched to LED light for their high(er) end models, therefore the LCD panels can be thinner, use less energy and produce less heat. Nonetheless, LED is the light source used in the TV, but it's still a LCD TV.

Used to work as an analyst at LG Display, one of the world largest LCD Panel manufacturers (2nd largest behind Samsung). We were testing/developing LED lit panels already back in 2006, but at that time it was mainly targeted at the computer industry (mainly notebook applications).

Got 3 Samsung LCDs (two 46"s & a 40"). I'm looking to get a Samsung 55" LED the day after Thanksgiving (sale). I use to own Sonys, but now I'm in love w/ Samsung.

Hey Jet, If pick up one of those 50" LEDs before me, make sure you post it and let us know what you think of it.

I'm in your shoes. I don't what all the tech jargon is, but I think the LEDs are a big improvement over the standard LCD TVs.
