I have always pondered on this matter. Frankly the diamonds on Rolex watches do not have the sparkle that gem quality ones would have had, Rolex being meticulous would not want to use 'semi industrial ' type diamonds would they. Any thoughts on this

I heard they are near flawless. I think the sparkle has to do with how they are cut. My wife's wedding ring is a Leo Diamond and it sparkles WAY more than most diamonds I have seen because they cut the diamond more/differently than most.

Rolex uses the best quality diamonds but most are very very small Ct weight less than 5-10 points.Its the bigger single diamonds from quarter Ct up thats when diamonds become very expencive.

I have seen nothing other than top quality diamonds from Rolex. They are small obviously, but quality is top shelf.

Most people would be shocked at how little a 5 point flawless diamond wholesales for.

Would agree especially the huge Rolex mark up, even taking account of the diamond setting time on dials cases etc.

At those sizes, and with no light reflecting from behind the diamond, cut is much more important than color or clairity, as long as the color and clarity are well matched for all stones.

Your observations kind of surprise me. I think the Rolex diamonds (E color and carefully matched) are much more brilliant than, for example, aftermarket bezels or dials. They are similar to other high quality watch diamonds (Cartier, Patek, etc.) but much better than many other manufacturers.

How a diamond is set on most watches does not provide for light in the same manner a ring diamond is set. So, a comparison with that type of setting is not going to give comparable results. But, when I've compared Rolex diamonds with other manufacturers, and especially after-market stones, the Rolex diamonds are clearly superior.

Their diamonds are excellent quality and their profit margin is probably higher on the stones than on the watch, though their price on rubies make the diamonds look cheap !!

My friend is a Rolex AD and according to him Rolex only use D color and Flawless on their diamonds.
