** Help w/ price please ** 1st time BUYER: Rolex Submariner 16610m 2008/2009

Hi guys, I'm going to bite the bullet join all you elite people and get a Rolex. I was looking at the Submariner (black) 16610M series, with the inscription on the circular part of the inner dial.

The retail for a brand new one is: $6000-$6100

I found a used one in excellent condition for $4600, and he is willing to have it verified at a Rolex dealer for $30.

My question is what's a reasonable or the going rate for a new one? What do they go for, or the cheapest I can get a new one for? If it's like low $5000s, then I might as well pay for a new one.

Any help is appreicated!!

Welcome. There is a broad range of prices for the 16610, just take a look at the for sale section on this site. There are several Subs over there, some BNIB (Brand New In Box) from established sellers. IMO, $4600 is a fair price, just make sure it has all the goodies, if not a price adjustment is necessary.

If you will check the for sale section of the forum, there are a number of 16610 subs for sale at the moment from a number of the regular resellers here. I would strongly suggest checking it out before you pay full list at an AD.

I would say either look within TRF for a trusted seller, or keep looking for a new one. I bought mine for 20% off, brand new, and had it shipped to my house to avoid tax.

thanks for all the fast replies guys!!

I was wondering if it anyone knows what's a good price for a new one. If it's not too far from $4600, then I would consider a new one.

Anyone have a ballpark FAIR price for a new one? I'm in the Los Angeles area, if that matters.

If you're in Los Angles, you have a a rather large number of what we call gray market re sellers in your area. La Jolla Jewelery, Anaheim Jewelery, Ramarica Jewelery just to name a few. All are bricks and mortar stores you can walk into. I'd call them and ask what they are getting for the same model.

$4800 brand new from an AD. Some will pay more, some will pay less. Its what you're comfortable spending and where you are buying from (both AD and city/country).

This was when the SS sub-date listed for $6000, got 20% off, and shipped it out of state to avoid tax.

Okay guys, I need some guidance and advice. I've narrowed it down to a trusted seller: DavidSW and a local guy herre. I need everyone's input on which deal I should go with, knowing granted there might be some bias with DavidSW as he's on TRF.

1. Brand new Submariner 16610V through DavidSW $5500

2. Used, but in mint condition, Submariner 16610M through local face to face transaction. $4600 (purchased 9 months ago)

Jaztime is the name of the guy locally here, he has watches on ebay under jaztimejewels.

http://myworld.ebay.com/jaztimejewels/

Willing to authenticate through Jostmar Jewellers at South Coast Plaza or Torneau @ South Coast Plaza.

He said that Jostmar would authenticate for $30, but I'm not sure if they're quialified to open the watch and make an assessment....

Torneau would give me a trade in value so, that's how they would assess the watch.

What do you guys think? it's a $900 difference for used or new.

Which option should I go with?

If you can afford to, buy a new one for a few hundred more and enjoy it. Deals are out there - as one poster noted, new ones at 20% off retail are available.

I couldn't agree more. If the watch in LA appears clean - no marks, dings signs or wear - and checks out authentic, then there is no difference between it and a new one except the $900.

Take the extra $900 and put it aside for a service in 5 years.

You end up with the same watch - and 10 years of cost free wear!

What about the issue with warranty? The new one with DavidSW will have my name on it for warranty, as opposed to the LA one which is 9 months old. Warranty shouldn't be a problem with a pre-owned watch right?

Has anyone delt with those 2 retailers before? Idk of they're good enough to verify auhenicity and to open the watch up.

Bought it here, just outside of Kansas City, MO. Its a store in a mall, people were real nice, but they only had 1 in stock when I was there 9 months ago, and have no idea what they have now or if they are discounting now that a new SS sub has been released.

gmaines, do you mind telling me what that great deal might be? I called them today and they quoted me $5700, and they couldn't even do $5500.

I just want to thank everyone for their input, replies and help with this 1st purchase. I bought the 16610 M and it was almost as if it was brand new, so I decided to save the $900 and went with www.jaztimejewelers.com.

Jaz was really cool and took me to Jostmar to authenticate at South Coast Plaza in Orange County, and then I suggested to bring it to Baron and Leeds Rolex for a trade in 2nd opinion. They offered me $3000!!!...can you believe that.

All in all, it was a smooth transaction.

Here are some iphone pics:
