A nib creep.

"Weird!"

A person well-versed in the appreciation of devices designed to deliver a regulated flow of pigmented water onto a fibrous surface which are of a high quality and are aesthetically pleasing.

The pen is only the first baby step. Next is a variety of ink; something for every mood and occasion. Then of course, you need a pen rug (thanks, again, Chris!) And then another pen catches your eye along the way.

For travel you need a pen wrap, leather case, or other protection for your precious instruments (and who travels with just one pen???) Most likely you might stumble on another pen, and think of it as a souvenir of your journey.

At home, more formal storage, such as a few of those gigantic 80-pen leather cases (for tucking away in a drawer or stacking in the closet, because along the way you picked up another pen or two) and of course the high gloss, wooden display case for the best and most precious of the lot.

It hardly seems fitting that we can rest that case on a broken down old desk, so only the finest furniture will do. It can, of course, go on and on, but remember, it started simply with the lowly fountain pen.

Where do I sign up, Leo...?

Of course, I'm not signing up, not today, but I'll keep the information handy for the future. I promise, I'll sign up in the future, that's it... When I'm ready; when I really need help.

Jim, you missed out some other things -
1. paper - There are so many different thickness, smoothness, and sizes of paper! Just paper itself is an art.
2. journals - how do you pack your papers? What leather should the journal be? black or brown, soft lamb skin or snake skin or croc skin or ???
3. ink wells - what ink wells allow you to "squeeze" the last drops of your precious ink when the shops are all closed for holidays? Also, what travelling inkwells?
4. sealing wax and stamps - to seal your letters there are so many sealing wax on offer. Need a real good personalised stamp and also research on the different waxes that can survive all these modern auto-sorting machines in the post offices around the world!

Oh my... How lacking. Of course, paper. (I do have a recent fetish with various papers, but prefer not to discuss that at the moment, thank you.)

And, heaven forbid!!! How could I overlook sealing wax.

But my sealing does not need waxing, just painting

M'lord Jimmy,

The ignorance and gross lack, and subsequent want of knowledge, as displayed by the local peasantry, is most unsettling to our ears, learned as they are, in the ways of the pen and page. This deficiency in the heathens' eddification must be remedied with all due haste and immediacy.

Bring forth to thine desk one stick of wax, suitable for sealing. St. Blotchy hath ordain'd that said wax shall be of a bright crimson in taint and firm of touch. Also shalt thou produce a flame, small in size, as that of a candle, with which to render the aforementioned wax into a liquid state.

Lastly thou shalt nay forgetteh thine stamp or signette-ringe of brass or golde, with which to produce thine seal. These materials having been duly gathered, a public demonstration of the virtues, necessity and the ability to produce great amusement, of sealing wax, shall then be played out by the Playing Company of His Majesty the King...

Right, enough of Medieval England...Seriously, sealing wax is teh majur funz. I've used it and there's nothing quite like it. I'm actually considering getting my own signet-ring made.

And a few walls... Lest I forget, the carpets need cleaned, too.

But on a serious note... I do need to clean a wall. I "shook" a pen that was being a bit stubborn to start. I didn't notice right away, but there were four spots on the wall, where the J. Herbin landed.

I didn't realize at first, what the spots where...

I've done something like that. While filling up an ink-cartridge with a syringe, I absentmindedly squeezed the syringe-piston.

I forgot that there was still an excess of ink in the chamber. Which subsequently ended up on the blinds.

Father was most displeased.

We have a museum store, that used to carry sealing wax and a variety of seals. Now I need to go off and see if they still carry that "stuff" and see what might be available.

Jim, I think you should leave the spots as they bring character to the wall.....

Now Shahan, I think you must be inhaling too much of the aforsaid sealing wax as this is the second quote from you with the mention of needles in as many days...Step away from the candle flame and the sealing wax, put away the needle tipped fountain pen and get thee to a broad flexi stub and do thee no harm

Now you see Jim, what you have created there is the ultimate writing den, Ink stained walls give it a Victorian legal office feel, all you need are sheafs of blotting paper scattered around the room, a green glass desk lamp blazing on the old oak desk and it is perfect!
