A new addition! Datejust Jubilee 116234

Hello folks,

At midday here in the UK I was singing the praises for my local AD.. two hours later, and I am now the proud owner of my second Rolex (and in less than a year of my first!) a new Rhodium Roman dialled 116234 datejust!

I got a TREMENDOUS deal on the watch - the guy always looks after me and my family and he asked me to name my price for it..

Needless to say, I got a beautiful watch to wear on more formal occasions instead of my SD 16600, and at a discount that I am yet to hear of on the forums! Out of respect for the AD and our relationship I would prefer to keep the financial details private

However, should you wish to establish a relationship with the AD I would be happy to provide details on a PM.. just dont go squeezing them on your first purchase.

I am about to do the grand unveiling since getting it home and will take some pics once I work out how to post them up!

Thanks for all the advice here guys and for making TRF such a great reference point for research

ha,ha, ha.. very funny

Its great to have comments from some of the newer guys around here and also some of the admirable established 'regulars' such as tooth doctor, spuds and sea-dweller on here.. thanks guys.

I have literally rushed home and taken these snaps really quick on my iphone to get some up (who on earth would want to be likened to the guy that did the skymoon hoax!?)

I have uploaded them to imageshack and will be a few mins working out which links to paste into this thread

I went for the rhodium roman in the end over the white i always had set in my head.. and what can i say.. i never really appreciated its somewhat 'monotone' appearance in AD windows, but on the wrist, it is a real stunner when the light subtly makes the dial dance (a big special deal for me coming from only knowing the solid black gloss of the sea dweller).

I have strapped this puppy on now and it fits a treat.

right, time to stop typing and start uploading!

Congratulations James. With my Friend Carl I have seen that watch an the version with Diamonds a few times now. It has become my favorite Dial colour!

There is something about seeing that dial in the flesh that no picture (not just yours, so no offence and I am sure you will agree!) can do it justice. It has to be seen in the flesh to really appreciate it's depth and shading!

That combination is the exact one I would go for as well (well maybe the diamonds as that is beautiful as well! The way the watch catches the light is mezmorising!

Well done again, a truly beautiful classy watch!

Thank you to everone for their kind comments.

Be sure to post pics should you pull the trigger on this beauty! Diamonds would be lovely, not quite what I was going for at my age, but they certainly look beautiful on the dial.

The WG fluted bezel makes this watch look a million bucks.. I can see now why they charge nearly another £700 or so for it over the smooth steel one.
Fantastic!

Fantastic choice, James! Well done! The 116234 is SO CLASSIC, and IMO, nothing beats a roman dial. Enjoy it for MANY years to come!

Thanks karis!

When I think of the 116234 white dial I always think of you on here - iconic

Don't let your daughter wear it "just once." You'll never get it back. (Speaking from experience.)

Congrats, James.

That is, in my opinion, the perfect and most attractive of all DJs. Love the WG Romans on the rhodium dial and Super Jubilee combo!!

Ha! My girlfriend has already asked me, albeit I made the suggestion after I got the "why the hell did you go and spend that on a watch AGAIN" look (which followed me starting by saying "i got a GREAT deal, absolutely incredible, you know the one you love...")

"Maybe you can wear it when I am wearing the SD".. famous last words!

Thank you so much JJ. There are a lot of valid opinions around here, but to hear it from you is some thing..

I remember this time last year you helping me out on the thread to decide whether to go with the DJII for my first rolex (before I ended up intercepting my SD at the last minute).

I must admit I was hesitant for a second about the rhodium dial over the white roman, given some comments on TRF about it looking a bit 'one dimensional' and hard to read (which I agreed with to an extent based on internet pictures) but in the metal, it is incredible - the way the dial changes with the light (like on the old bluesy) is such a treat.

I really appreciate your input and seal of approval, thanks JJ

Here's to many years and many more!

My Datejust is in Vail skiing (without me) this weekend. Hopefully, I'll get it back someday. I have to admit that it looks terrific on her.

This made me laugh a great deal - someday, someday!
That is the beautiful thing about this watch - it looks great on everybody with everything, everywhere. Incredible.

I would usually regard myself as someone who tends to buy 'limited edition' or different colourway versions of things, but now I have found myself with two of perhaps the most iconic and traditional watches from the Rolex lineup in the last few decades! The one benefit of this of course is that I will never have to flip as they go out of 'fashion' - iconic styling never leaves (Porsche 911's spring to mind)

Congratulations James!

I've got my heart set on a DJ myself. The deal is I have to get the Mrs a Lady DJ with diamonds when I buy mine. Some serious saving is taking place!

Yours is a great looking watch and it sounds like you got a great deal. Well done. I hope I do as well when the time comes, eventually.
