Inbound Omas

Okay, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered an Omas Arte Italiana Arco Celluoid with a fine nib from FPH. This one is the Milord size in gold trim and should be here in a few days.

After Leo said he's bought seven FP's in the last month, I had to get going!

I'll post pics and writing samples when I get it! (If I can ever find any ink! ). Somebody stop me!!

Huge congratulations John, Omas make some of the most beautiful pens in the world, really looking forward to seeing some photos of yours. After waiting some time for a couple of pens myself, I have sympathy for you while you are waiting for your stunning pen to arrive.

Thanks, Dave. I'm pretty excited about it, and I've read nothing but good things about them. I really love using my Montblanc, but it'll be nice to have a companion piece to go with it.

I just received a call from FPH, and the pen they had in stock yesterday (I called) was not in stock today! So, it's being shipped second-day air direct from the Omas factory and I should have it Monday.

Thanks, Kai! I have some Aurora blue and black ordered from FPH, but it's backordered, and they said it may be a few more weeks before it arrives. I need to find something locally because I'm out of ink.

I'll get the samples and photos of the pen up for sure!

John! I am so excited for you, one of the most beautiful fountain pens currently or ever made IMHO

I am really excited to see what you think of it when you get it. I am predicting it will become a firm favorite of yours!

Celluloid is such a wonderful material. It is warm and organic to tuch and the luminecence and three d effect of that particualr celluloid is a thing to behold. I think you will find yourself just holding it and looking at the pattern of the culluloid! One thing, when you un cap it for the first time (and I know this will sound a strange thing to do!!) sniff the inside of the cap! I am not kidding! Every celluloid pen I own has a wonderful camphor smell to it, it really is lovely!

As to ink. Well I think private reserves copper burst would match that pen wonderfully!

I found that there is a store in DC at the airport that sells PR

And also it looks like FPH has a store in washington and FPH sell private reserve as well!

I use Noodlers standard brown ink as well and that would match your pens colour wonderfully!
Here is an example of that colour!

Congratulations again John. I feel this will be not the only Italian pen you will own!

Ian, thanks so much for the kind words and the info. I will check it out. Just one thing, I am not in DC but just south of you, in the Great State of Washington!

The interesting thing is, there's almost as much to learn about ink as there is about the pens themselves. You guys are a wealth of knowledge about both topics, but I have a feeling with ink it's a personal trial-and-error thing.

I will give the inks you suggested a try, and thanks again!

You are right, fountain pens are only the start, then it's paper and ink, then what to hold the pens in! FPN have a wonderful resource tool in their ink reviews section, not sure if it is Ok to post a link to another forum, if it is I will post a direct link but in the meantime go check it out, one gets to see what the inks look like being used!

Haha! No worries, Ian! Thanks for taking the time to look up all those retailers! As far as meeting up sometime, that sounds great. I've been wanting to take my wife up to BC at some point, but we just haven't gotten around to it. I used to go all the time when I was in school to ski at Whistler, and I'd love to meet with your club.

Thank you, Richard. It was your suggestion that put me on to Omas, and the more I read the more I liked. A really terrific company!

John, congratulations on the new incoming! I wasn't familiar with that one, so had to go look it up... A beautiful pen! I'm sure you will enjoy it. As Ian stated, the ink is the other half of the equation and I have been just starting to venture into that area. Ian seems to have made some very interesting suggestions.

Can't wait for your pics, just as I'm sure you can't wait for the pen!

Thanks Jim! I'm just branching out into the world of inks myself. It's nice to have this subforum and all the great folks who frequent it available as a resource. I've learned so much! And I just spent almost $700 on a pen!!

This forum, and places like FPN offer such a wealth of information. Really enjoy looking at the various pens and writing samples, too, showing off the plethora of colors.

I'm not sure if you have found the ink reviews on FPN. I have been spending hours there learning about all the different inks. It's a really good resource for someone like me that doesn't have a lot of experience beyond a couple of blues, a blue-black, a black, with a Waterman red thrown in for something different.

Based on what I've read, I took a walk on the wild side and bought some J. Herbin Cafe Des Iles... Now I'm wondering what's next???

I think that could easily become another addiction.
