Pelikan M1050 EF

I've looked off and on at the Pelikan M1000 / M1050 for quite some time. Never really searched one out specifically, but when I stumbled upon a new one, new in the box with stamped papers, with an 18C EF nib, I went ahead and "jumped."

I had the choice of the black barrel, or the green striated... I choose the green and gold cap. I wonder if that was the "right" choice...? I don't care, since I like the green barrel.

So here are a few photos....

Congrats on this new purchase Jim!

Green and gold. Such contrasting colours yet so pleasant! Very nice mate!

Thanks, Kai. I was tempted by the black barrel and gold cap, but kept going back to the green and gold... Love the way it writes. It works well for me.

I think you made the correct decision Jim, the green and gold compliment each other perfectly, stunning colours that change with different lighting conditions. Love the two tone nib, looks very stylish. Great hand writing and ink colour as well.

Superb photography, particularly like the composition and the background of the beautiful leather notebook cover, stunning.

Thank you for posting this excellent review Jim, may you have many years of writing pleasure from your beautiful new pen.

Jim, congrats on a fine looking Pelikan.
“Stresemann Green” is a great choice.

How does EF nib feel?
Scratchy?
Toothy?

congratulations Jim. I was looking at the black version of this one at my local pen club meet the other week, without a doubt you got the right colour combination! The vermile cap is beautiful and compliments the green perfectly!

Historically as well the green is spot on as it reflects Pelikans of old!

That nib is a wonder as well, I love the big Pelikan nib..Here is a thought! That one would also be a prime candidate for John (Mottishaw) to turn into a flexi nib! In fact you could easily just have him send you a modifyied one so that you have two nibs for the pen!

Either way you have a classice there and looking at your lovely handwriting it really does write very well indeed!

Well done Jim

Jim, what a beautiful new pen you have there. The Pelikan looks great with the green barrel and gold cap. I also enjoy your writing style whether printing or cursive.....I guess I'll have to work on my penmanship to catch up to the rest of you guys and gals!!!

Joji, this Pelikan EF is a dream. It is not as fine as the Sailor EF nibs, but oh so smooth. I wrote with my Pelikan Demonstrator with a Fine 14C (I believe this is my smoothest nib, by far; but a bit wide for me...) and this 18C EF is just as smooth. There is no "scratch", nor does it have any bite. It is exceptionally smooth out of the box. (I purchased online from a dealer in Singapore, so there was no setup, as with Mottishaw or Binder.)

Thank you, Leo. I am a little self conscious to post the writing samples, but it is interesting to see the writing of others, and more so it at least gives you a hint of how a pen/nib may perform.

Thanks, John. I was back and forth between the black barrel and green. The green won out, and is really growing on me. Go for the 800...! If the nib you obtain is as smooth as both my Pelikans, you will be impressed.

Thank you, Ian for your comments and suggestions. When I received the pen and flushed with mild soapy water before inking, I was impressed with the ease at which the nib unit was removed. It did plant the seed to go to Mottishaw and see what "options" might be available. I love this EF, even after writing only 10 pages or so, but if there was a "replacement" nib I could swap, that would be the best of both worlds.

Jim, I just saw your post and I know it's been a long time since you posted it... hmmm like about 4 years. :) Anyway, here's a thought. If you also have a M1000 black (or other color) pen, then you can, at times, switch the cap of the 1050 with the other pen and you can then have your vermeil cap on any M1000 color pen you want for a switch... and the black cap on a black pen then makes it look so very low-key and sophisticated. Just a thought. :)

Best, ... Nathaniel, looking at my Pelikans and thinking you just never have quite enough of them.

Beautiful pen and photos! I have the M1000 in green striated with an EF nib as well. The only thing is my pen writes a little dryly, so it's off getting adjusted to give a wetter flow. Enjoy your pen in good health!
