I had someone ask if they could use my pen the other night and I let them use my Pelikan. I did keep the cap to remind myself and them to return it. I was not too nervous with my modest Pelikan but with a more expensive pen I would have went and found them a bic.

If it is a fellow enthusiast who knows how to use and respect it yes I would.

I have a number of vintage pens now to know that loaning or letting someone write with your pen is not going to ruin the nib. I must admit (and I am willing to proven wrong on this!) that I think the whole, "you must not let someone use your fountain pen as it will ruin it for you" thing is hogwash!

Only.

AND ONLY.

If they already know how to use a fountain pen, or are willing to take tuition.

Nasty experiences in the past have forced me down this route.

I've had the experience; hey, do you have a pen I can use? I wasn't so worried about the pen walking off, as with the nib being damaged by someone pressing for all it's worth to make it write.

(Of course, now I can give them my Sailor Trident and let them cut holes in the paper...)

I've done this twice, and was nervous each time when the person didn't have a clue about fountain pens. It was interesting to see them try to write with one too.

I now offer a TUL 0.5mm gel pen I keep handy, "just in case."

I'm learning that fountain pens are more durable then I was led to believe but for someone else to use I do carry a Pilot G-2 gel writer!!!

I would probably do what Ian does, loan it to a fellow enthusiast, and you guys are the only ones I know! Otherwise, no. To much risk of it being damaged.

Ive not been asked to be quite honest, I have noticed the "holding the cap" trick before though, when I was at a car dealership the two salesmen I dealt with always held on to their MB caps.

As I'm about the only one who still uses a fountain pen I'll hand them one of my other pens. Most people press too hard on a fountain pen because they're not used to it. And when signing delivery slips (with multiple carbon copies) a fountain pen is useless anyway. So, no.

By the way, what colour ink do you use in your pen? I use dark emerald green
