Enola Gay... ce fini

Got WAY behind on this one. Had several projects going on at once. My mother's car broke down, (rack and pinion leak),... fixed that. My hot water heater went... nice addition to the flooding we've had here in the N.E. And then when I get the wet-vac out I notice my sump pump doesn't want to work... had to repair that too. Before I got to work installing the new hot water heater this morning I snapped a few shots of the finished project. Last, but not least... took a long hot shower. What a freakin' week! Tomorrow the lawn war commences... I feel like Billy Bob Thorton in Sling Blade... hmmm!

A wonderful Job Joseph, I really like how you have weathered the metal finish, and the writing on the nose wheel covers!
What is the next model project??

Thanks Ian. I think it will be a while before I tackle another one. What I really need to do is finish the plank-on-bulkhead H.M.S. Pandora I started a few month ago. I'll need to set up a new work station for that one though. Right now it's time for some sleep/yard work in the A.M.

First off... Thanks to all for the compliments!

I have an old kitchen table in my basement that I've been using as a work station of sorts. What I'm thinking of doing is covering the top with construction board that can be made to look like concrete. The A-bomb(s), wheeled cradle, and ground crew were actually included in the kit. In real life, it, (Little Boy), was lowered into a pit below the aft bomb bay. I would like to reproduce this to scale using the construction board. I also have a P-51D Mustang, (same scale), which I believe was used as fighter escort, that I will be parking next to it. It's an older model that I've had for a while now so I'm in the process of restoring it.

Thanks Again all!

Great job Joseph. The B29 was a great aircraft. Models are a great hobby and you have done a great job with it.

Steelinox, Nice work! Is it carved out of a solid block of wood? The reason I'm asking is that it looks like it's begging for a motor/prop and some servos. If it's light enough you could try and add some flaps, a rudder, and landing gear. But taking it to that level does get expensive.

I've seen some vintage, autographed photos of him for sale on the internet, but I've always been concerned about the authenticity. My grandfather was a Navy SeaBee stationed on Tinian in 1945. He built and repaired runways. That's about all he ever mentioned about the war though.

I probably should have mentioned in my earlier post that Enola Gay was the name of Tibbets' mother.

Yes, and there was some contraversy over that decision. Tibbets hand picked that particular B-29 and renamed after his mother over the protests of the original pilot and crew. Much of the original markings were removed and the name "Enola Gay" was painted on shortly before the actual mission.
