Being Out of Practice

With all of you guys and gals posting pictures of your cursive handwriting styles and talking about it I decided to give it a shot. Boy am I rusty at it and have the tendency to revert back to printing my letters. It's going to take some time and practice to get used to writing in cursive again. I blame this change about on all of you guys and this Forum!!!

Leo, keep at it my friend and remember I have been exclusivly writing like this for over fourty years and mine still leaves a lot of room for improvement and I am not being self deprocating, just check out some of the amazing writing sample videos I have posted on other threads!

Remember as well, this is about enjoyment and relaxation, your not back in school being graded. I really applaud your willingness to go back to writing this way I would certainly find it very difficult if it were me!

I really encourage you to watch the videos on youtube (there are many) they really help me a great deal!

Keep at it Leo. I think we all would like to improve. Practice is the key.

Yes but with a pen you are only annoying yourself when you make a mistake. With a musical instrument everyone suffers.

I don't have a fountain pen so I'll just ask.
Does a fountain pen lend itself well to printing at all? It strikes me as being a tool nearly exclusive to the continuous cursive style.
I really need to get one of these things.

Bill, you can indeed print well with a fountain pen, many many people do that, just look on FPN and you will see that.
For me though it really just touches on the joy of a fountain pen to do that.
When one starts to write cursive there is a flow to the words that makes you just want to keep writing. it really becomes a joy to do.
For instance today was a little stressful dealing with some personal stuff (you know how life sometimes has the habit of getting in the way of the good stuff!)

Well, after dealing with part of it I went to my local coffee shop, got myself a brew and sat down and started to write about what had been going on.

I got completely absorbed in the writing and by the time I had written 3 pages of A4 I had relaxed and put my problems on to the paper where I could see them clearly and realise that they were no where near as big as my mind made them be. It cleared me and I then went and dealt with the rest of the problem and it resolved itself perfectly.

Why am I saying this? Well, writing cursive really helps with keeping the flow of thought going, where as printing it is harder.

I love cursive as it allows me to express myself on paper far more effectively than print!

I have rambled and am not quite sure if I have made any point here..I hope so

If you print fast enough it'll become cursive on it's own

My handwriting has been described as 'are you a professor?' Only I can deciper my handwriting
