Crazy Story - Long

My birthday is in April and my husband asked what I wanted. Well, I have a wish list at the local AD and wanted some diamond studs.

He can trade in my smaller studs and get a credit toward the larger pair. So I put my earrings in a little ring box and put it in my vanity, next to my makeup. I made sure Rudy knew where the box was.

The vanity is actually a set of custom built cabinets on either side of the bathroom mirror. Well, we had the plumber doing some work yesterday, and I never leave anyone in my bathroom unsupervised. I have loaded firearms in the closet and all my jewelry is in the master bedroom. So the plumber fixed my bathtub and I locked the bedroom door when he finished.

I also keep my cats locked in the bedroom, because Mephistopheles opens all sorts of doors and can turn on water faucets. He can't turn on my bathtub in the master bedroom.

Well, yesterday evening, I took a bath and noticed that the ring box was gone. So I was really excited, but I had told my husband to wait on the earrings because I just spent quite a bit on the plumber.

So I asked my husband if he took the box and that it was really sweet, but maybe we could just wait until next month. He looked at me like I was crazy! He said he didn't touch the box. So of course my heart sank to my toes and I went in the bathroom to look for my earrings. I looked everywhere....no box.

Finally, my husband came in the bedroom and asked if the plumber might have taken them, or if anyone else was in the house...he is so suspicious. I told him that no one goes in our room unsupervised because of the guns. They are all out of sight, but we wouldn't take any chances. Also I was with the plumber and even if he would have taken something, there was a diamond necklace hanging on a jewelry hook next to the box and worth a lot more. Not to mention my box full of watches in the bedroom on the dresser and my jewelry box.

All of the jewelry is insured, but by this time I was sick to my stomach. My husband started helping me look and was sounding quite sure someone had broken in, found the earrings and absconded with them and nothing else. I am thinking how silly!

Well the box with the earrings was under the bed, wedged against the leg of my cedar chest.

Turns out the mysterious cat burglers were the cuplrits...

Mephistopheles probably opened the cabinet.....

And Chupacabra took the box....because she is the cat who steals...

And tonight I am going to buy child safety locks for my bathroom cabinets..

Crazy story....anyone else have cats that do this kind of stuff? Mine are worse than a troop of monkeys!

What a story! It's no fun finding the pit of your stomach in situations like that. I am glad it had a happy ending for you.
