My daughter-in-law is looking for a Michele watch.

Def go grey market. They are owned and made by Fossil. Good watches, but pretty high for the internal quality. They can be found at massive discounts if ya look hard enough.

my wife wanted one last April for her birthday. I told her I'd buy her a better watch, a Rolex, but she says she's not the Rolex type and wanted one of the fashion watches, so we got her a Michelle. I think I paid around $1100...In less than a year, the battery went. $60 to be replaced and "resealed" at a good AD...then it stopped again less than a month later. It's been sent back to Michelle for service ( warranty ). I've heard the movements are cheap Japanese movements....I dont know if thats true or not. In the mean time she's wearing the TAG I bought her 17 years ago.....cant stop that thing.

I never heard that Michele was part of the Fossil group, but I've known "kids" that have had Fossil watches for years with no problems.
My wife does have a high-end watch, but wanted a "fun" sport watch. Michele just came out with a new model (the Tahitian Jelly Bean) which sells retail for only $295. At that price (though my local jeweler gave a 20% discount) I can justify the watch and the mediocre movement. However, I'm not sure if I can justify paying a thousand dollars plus for the same movement just because the watch has ceramic band and some low quality diamonds around the bezel. In my opinion, for $295 it's a "fun"/fashion watch, but for the same movement, I believe spending a thousand bucks is not a wise choice when there are higher quality watches in that range. I do know many of my wife's friends who have owned Michele watches for several years and have had no complaints. It's simply a fashion watch, and that must be known at the time of purchase. |
