Garment Bags - non carry on
I'm in the market for large garment bag - one that I can check in. I have my eyes on the Tumi Alpha bag - seems large enough to hold a weeks worth of gear, but before I (reluctantly) drop $500, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm sure there's a fair few garment bag users here.
Muchos appreciated ![]() |

Tumi may be on the expensive side but they survive all the abuse an airline dishes out and still look great afterward. If it breaks, they fix it free and can even ship it top your home ($25)
I assume you're not looking at a wheeled garment bag because they run $800. Don't bother with the carry on wheeled Alpha garment bag. It barely holds anything and it doesn't pack well (Suits get wrinkled) IMO, they're worth every penny |

I carry Hartmann and love it. Very high quality and durable thus far, but expensive as hell.

My sister has the large Tumi Alpha that you have to check. I have the carry-on Alpha suitor.
The internal systems are superior to any other suitor luggage that I know of. |

I'm very happy with my Atlantic garment bag, though I'm not sure how much the style has changed in the 5 years since I bought it. I also second the recommendations on Tumi, all my Tumi luggage is top-notch.
If you want Tumi, keep an eye on eBay. Some Tumi factory outlets will hold overstock/defective sales, and although it is frowned upon, some people like to buy some and sell it on eBay. I live near one, and am typically able to get Tumi at about 30% the normal price (the only reason I still use the Atlantic garment bag is because it is still in great shape, so I can't justify replacing it). The defective stuff does not get the warranty, but I think the overstock stuff does. I think it depends on if the metal barcode tag on the luggage has a line through it or not. Even without the warranty, the defective items are a great deal, because the "defect" is typically something so minor that even my anal self can't figure out what it is. Now that I think about it, the local outlet is having a sale this weekend. :) |
