GMT bezel click...
Hi,
I'm curious to know whether the GMT bezel should have precise, "ratcheting" clicks with a crisp sound. My 1996 GMT seems to turn fine but doesn't have the sharp clicking sound that one would find on a dive watch bezel. Is this normal? Pardon this question too, but I understand that there should be 120 clicks on a dive bezel...why is this so when there are 60 minutes/seconds per hour/minute cycle? Thanks Last edited by glimmer; 7 May 2010 at 02:48 PM.. Reason: added text |

Your GMT should have a 120 click bezel..... if the clicks are muffled, run it under warm soapy water until the gunk is cleaned out...
As for the 60 minutes per hour on a Dive Bezel ........ it is irrelevant... The bezel has no relationship to the dial. It is there to be rotated to where the minute hand is, wherever that may be around the dial, and start a countdown from that spot.... That minute hand is seldom going to be at a particular mark on the dial, so the bezel doesn't need to correspond to anything on the dial....... The 120 clicks on a GMT bezel is overkill and Rolex changed this with the new GMT that only has a 24 click bezel... one for each hour of the 24 hr hand......

I think I've found the answer...the minute hand doesn't stay at 60 positions, it is always "moving" so it could be between minutes.
