Recommend a nice beater
say the price limit is $1,000, preferably Swiss made, though Japanese is great also. Hopefully an automatic, COSC or not. I would just really love to hear what people have to say. Thanks

Should be in the General watch section (no WAY you're gonna find a Rolex for around $1,000 lol).
I highly recommend a Seiko. My Black Monster cost me $240 WITH tax (lol) and I LOVE my Monster. VERY good quality, keeps great time, very durable, and has not left my wrist for almost 4 months. For + or - $200USD, you get - GREAT lume - fantastic build quality - a diver extension on bracelet models - date and day - automatic movement - a BIG smile !! So, again I recommend a Seiko Monster !! Good luck with your search ! Mike |

I've got two Ocean 7 LM6's and really like them both (orange and black faces). ETA 2834 movement, sapphire crystal, 500m depth rating and, at $600, well below your $1,000 threshold.

the evergreen Seiko SKX007 or SKX173, a dive watch style. Well priced, runs well, very sturdy.

Since you've mentioned the limit of $1K, I've made selection to high side of the limit
Marathon SAR - $600 new with rubber strap, $800 new with bracelet (maybe difficult to get new) Seiko SBDC00X "SUMO" - $600 New

For a bit more money you could get a Breitling Colt or Superocean. If you want something cheaper, Seiko is what you should be looking into or a Marathon if you could get your hands on one.

The Marathon Sars are nice but IMHO the bezel inserts are junk and 1 of the main problems I had with several that I owned.

I agree. There are a bunch of MkII offerings for under $1000.
This is my Vantage (3916) MkII has two Blancpain 50 Fathoms homages. One is the old design, the other is the one from the 70s... There used to be a Benrus homage called the "Blackwater" that was very low priced. The replacement is an upgraded model, the Paradive. It has a bunch of great features and is a bit over $1K. |
