Terrible weather made for a great weekend outside
We ran the first of our race weekends of the year up at Mosport here in Canada. Despite racing in frigid temperatures (1C) with driving rain followed by a dusting of snow, I still managed to run one of my best races to date, winning my class.
The video is a one hour race edited down to 2 minutes so a lot of the hairy moments on track didn't make it on the reel. The next video I do will probably be at least a minute or two longer so that I can include more of the craziness that was absent in this one. Hope you enjoy it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw9I5XSxOzE |

Thanks - it was so cold and damp throughout the weekend that I'm now home trying to shake a terrible cold
Typically the first race weekend in May is fraught with challenging weather (just never seen snow at this time). As bad as it may be for the drivers, it is twice as bad for the corner workers and safety crews that are standing in the elements from 8am to 6pm. |

What kind of weather do they have before they cancel a race? Do they usually race in the rain? Or does it have to be a torrential downpour to end the race? I would imagine they have covered stands for spectators. Congrats on your win. You look like a talented driver.

I've never seen a race cancelled because of rain, regardless of how much precipitation, however races have either been delayed/shortened because of lightning activity (puts the corner workers in peril) or due to fog which can be very hazardous at Mosport. The track is large enough and with enough elevation changes that it can rain or be foggy in one corner and sun shining in another.
The first 1/2 hour of this race the rain came down heavy enough that I was spinning my tires for the first 5 gears, even with rain tires. The frigid cold didn't help either as the tires never did get close to proper operating temperature. |

I feel the need, the need for speed, as Sheila has the car guess I'll have to make do with spinning my computer chair.
Great footage. Brian

So here's a frame I pulled from my in-car video from this past weekend. This was probably one of the most lucky weekends I've had; narrowly averted major damage in the incident below (can literally be buffed out!) and my crew caught a significant fuel leak as a result of a cracked fuel rail when I later came in for my mandatory pit stop = no burning the car or myself to the ground.
