Some advice needed guys - getting a new watch for the wife.

Hopefully the forum can give some much needed guidance on this one.

About to buy a new watch for my wife, and we can't really decide on which model to get. We have narrowed it down to two though - the Explorer II (black) and the SUB 16610. Went to the AD yesterday and both models looked good on her rather small wrist. (At the moment, she's wearing a Tudor 29mm - gray face, and would like to have the option of a more sportier/cooler watch)

My wife really likes both models, but also thinks that the SUB is the more "classic" model here. But she is a bit worried about it looking to much like the GMT IIc I bought for myself a couple of weeks back, and that it will look a bit strange when we're together and wearing these two models. Personally I don't think this would be any problem, but would be nice to hear what other people think about this. So do you think it would look strange, and does the SUB and the GMT look to much a like for a wife and husband to wear at the same time?

Many thx in advance!

Cheers,
Joe

they do look alike IMHO... as far as wearing them "toghether"... thats your personal preference. Alot of women are wearing bigger watches these days, however, my wife picked out an OP with a black face and pink markers to look a little more feminine. Maybe this pic will help. Good luck to both of you on making a decision and im sure many others will comment on this topic.

I don't see how you can possibly go wrong with either choice of the Exp II or sub. If she loves the sub, go for it. IMO they are different enough that you will not look like the Bobsey Twins. The polished links of the GMT IIc makes for a different look.

Thx for the feedback guys!

Like I said in my first post, pesonally I think that these two models goes very well together and that there are several elements seprating the two. But I also understand that some might think they do in fact look a like and that it might look a bit odd wearing them together. But at the end of the day, I guess it all comes down to personal taste. (but also ineresting to hear others opinions on this)

Cheers
Joe

I +1 for the Sub. Matching watches on couples are cute! I wish I had a special someone to match my watch with...but nobody loves me.

But anyways back on topic, they all look similar in SS/Black, only real distinguishing factor is the cyclops and numbers on the bezel. What about a TT sub?!

Yeah I've tried to opt for the LV, but no luck so far. Apparently the green narrows down the kind of outfits that goes well together with this model. My wife works in fashion, so I can understand this being important for her.

Cheers,
Joe

Exp II looks cool on a lady's wrist. But... she may want both the black and white dial versions...??

I bought my wife a mid size yacht master a few years ago and she also wears most all of my vintage watches.

Either watch is fine IMO but maybe check whether you'd have to perform any major surgery on the bracelet to get it to fit your wife's wrist?

Yeah, good point. I actually thought about this yesterday, so just to try it out, I took of two extra links on my GMT (I have it setup 6@12 & 4@6 for me) and she said it felt comfortable. Sure, one can't say that a 40mm watch doesn't look a bit big on a woman's wrist, but in the same time it looks cool and a bit "contemporary" - if one can put it that way.

Cheers,
Joe

Yeah, it's a nice watch indeed. But that one wasn't on the "list of choices" - right?
Don't get me wrong, but she has already decided its either going to be the SUB or the ExpII.

Cheers,
Joe

Although I'm not a guy...does your wife have any interest in the Yachtmaster? I love the Submariner but didn't want to wear a man's watch, and it's the only professional-line watch Rolex makes for women. I have the ladies' size (29 mm) whcih fits perfectly on my wrist. If your wife would find that too small, she might like the mid-size at 35 mm.

I have the SS/platinum model (like my avatar). My husband has the black TT Submariner. I don't think it looks odd when we wear our watches together.

Both choices are great, but I'd encourage her to go with the classic Sub 16610! I actually encouraged my husband to get one after I'd been wearing mine for a year and a half

We have worn ours out together at the same time and I can't imagine why it would look weird to anyone else.....we think it's pretty darn cool!

Just got my wife the tt yachtmaster midsize and she loves it and it looks great. Sub and others were too big.

I say the Sub and GMT IIc are different enough. I do.

I'd really look into a DJ with white romans, a mid or full size SS/Pt YM. These watches just seem more lady like. Nothing wrong with a sport model however. Those look awesome on the ladies as well. What is her taste? Where will she be wearing it more?

Am personally not a big fan of men's watches on women -think it looks a bit "Hollywood" and think it'll eventually go out-of-style. That said, my opinion doesn't really matter in this instance.

Of the two, I'd go Sub all day long.

I know you narrowed it down to two...but, since others have brought it up, the Mid-Size YM it great and very feminine. My wife is short and has tiny writs, now that she has the Mid-Size YM, her ladies date Date seems so small to me. But, my watches are too big for her - in her opinion.

Either way, you can't go wrong with any of your options.

-Pete
