At my place it's just about reality. I also spend a great deal of time moving toads around after a rainstorm. Little dipsh*ts love to squat right in the middle of my stone driveway. It pains me to tell you there are some that I, um...haven't spotted.

I hear you, bro'. I put my "daddy's boy" Sylvester down 5 years ago next month. Never been another cat like him. He wanted to be a dog, came when I whistled for him, walked the perimeter with me, had to sleep next to me, not on me. Also the scourge of mice throughout the property. Unlike most cats, who merely play w them, or maybe rip their little heads off, Sylvester would dispose of them too - by eating them, tail and all ! Fighting weight 17 lbs, got up to 22 after I retired him to indoor living only. Head the size of a softball. Lived about 18 years, he came with the property when I bought it in '92. They don't make 'em like that any more !

That is the same bond I had with Sammie. Animals are great pals.

Oddly, there are far too many people out there who don't realize that cats can be every bit as good a pet as a dog. They simply have different mannerisms that you need to be aware of. I also have a greenwing macaw x 22 years this month, and he also is a daddy's boy attention hog, lets me know in no uncertain terms when he's not getting enough. Sylvester left him well alone.

My wife wants another cat. I think Spooky will be put out by it. I really like cats now that I have had a couple.

I think all animals bond with someone and they stay loyal to them.
