I dont know what to do, and must admit, I feel a little guilty...
Well, not really, but here is my dilemma...
A few weeks ago I bought a beautiful tt sub with a blue face from a fellow TRF member. To me this was always the classic rolex, and it would catch my attention even long before I knew anything about watches. As soon as I received it, I set it and put it on. You see, I love the color combo of the watch, and I could spend a lifetime getting lost staring into that deep blue face. The watch is just such a stunner to me, and I love looking at it in my watch case. I was so thrilled that I finally got one. Now the problem is, I dont like the way it looks on my wrist. I dont know how to describe it, but the watch is just not me. I have other subs so the size etc is not the problem. I think I am having trouble with the gold. I have a couple of gold watches (non rolex) that I think look great on me but all of them are on leather bands. This is also the one dive watch I wouldnt dive with, being afraid that the shiny gold would attract baracuda or warn the lobster that I love to hunt. I just dont know what to say. My favorite part of the watch is the deep blue dial. I thought about converting to steel. That is, getting rid of the bracelet and putting on the SS bracelet from my SD (which is always on some sort of NATO). I could then source a white date wheel and get an extra SS bezel that I could transfer the blue bezel onto. Of course this would be quite an involved process. I realize it would kill the collectible value of the watch and make resale quite difficult. I am fortunate enough that this loss of money it not important to me, but still the idea of doing all this somehow seems wrong. Afterall, if I didnt like the final result, I'd be even further up the proverbial creek... I have really expanded the Rolex part of my watch collection this year and if I could point the finger, I'd point it at TRF (I love good enablers). However, there are a few Rolexes left that I still want to add to the collection. I want a Pepsi GMT, a GV, a Daytona, and perhaps a DSSD. I also would love to get a vintage sub some day like a 5513. Maybe I should flip the 16613 and get one of these instead. Have any of you guys ever been in such a position? I feel guilty because I just got this watch and I bought it from a TRF member. Am I reading too much into this? What would you do? |

That stinks that you don't "love" the watch, sounds like you have given this a lot of thought. If you don't "love" it and there are other Rolexes out there that you want, I would see if you can trade it or flip it and get one that you really want to wear and makes you smile every day. Rolexes aren't inexpensive, you should smile when you wear them. Good luck! -Pete

YES, I have. I have always wanted a sold gold Rolex...well about 3 weeks ago I bought one also from a trusted trf seller. Got the watch and it was not for me... I have since flipped it for some SS models. The watch was beautiful, the TRF seller was EXCELLENT but at the end of the day, the watch wasnt for me... Feel bad? Not for not liking the watch---for losing more $$$ YOU BET
Sometime you never know until you do it...live and learn. I would give it a bit of time to grow on you unless you know for sure as I did that it just isnt for you... If this is the case, get something you really like, life is too short.

Not intending to be an enabler, but I would flip the bluesy in a NY minute and strike that Daytona off your must-have list!
I also went through a two tone stage when I got a rootbeer last year. Beautiful colors, and an awesome watch - just not on my wrist. After a lot of soul-searching (and enabling from our common source), I flipped it for my SD and could not be happier! Best of luck, Chris!

Who wants a $8k watch (or whatever) that they don't love?
Flip it in a second. Just wait long enough to be sure you'renot going to want to buy it again. That could be embarrassing. |

having it on your wrist is definitely different from justing looking at photo, on other people wrist, comment from others etc etc.
only when it is on your wrist, and perhaps, for weeks... only than you can tell: YES THIS IS THE ONE ... or ... SORRY, IT GONNA GOES... listen to your heart and do what you 'feel' right. you might just bought it back later, who know? or, maybe, put it aside, and see if you 'miss' it? like the saying: let the bird flies away, and if it comes back, it is yours :) I am sure you know what to do

Thanks to the other replies. I've had this one in my case for some time, and each time I put it on, I realize more and more that this one just isnt for me. Unfortunately, I'm a day late as two of the watches I'm looking for have just sold on the classifieds.... |

More on being an enabler: How about you PM superman sellers DavidSW or Oscar bodybump and ask them for a trade? They might have something in stock or be able to source something for you.
Good luck, bro.

Hi Chris,
Sorry that you're so totally confused about such a beautiful watch. There's absolutely no need to bastardize such a stunner. Why not post us a few pics of you actually wearing the watch and let us be the judge in this case. Let us have a look before you do anything rash that you may regret later on. Cheers - JJ

Well I've been in your position once on a TT GMT, I sold the TT GMT when I didn't like the way it looks on MY wrist... so... Why keep it if you don't like t buddy?
Dont get me wrong, it's a great watch. But I think *I* want a watch that looks great ON me, not just looking great. |

Thanks, Chris............that was quick!!
Nothing wrong with the watch at all, buddy. Even though the pics aren't the best, the watch looks terrific on you. The only point is that you are wearing it too high on the arm..........should be a bit lower down closer to the wrist. Maybe a bit of adjustment in the bracelet should do the trick!! Have you taken off any links already? If you tell me what you've done, I could perhaps render some help. JJ

It actually looks good on you, Chris.
Maybe it's one of those that grows on you after a while.

I think it looks fine Chris.......But you are the wearer!!!
What if you sized it better and moved it up closer to your wrist?? Or is that where you wear it??

I havent removed any links, but adjusted the clasp to its tightest setting. The watch is snug on my wrist, but may have slid up a little when I took those pics...
I have odd wrists, they seem to get a little wider closer to my hand. That may be because I've broken my wrist three times, and the last time it was broken in a manner that the MDs couldnt set it. |

In fact, this is one of the finest looking TT watches out there, and that BLUE dial is one which Rolex haven't been able to replicate in their new Ceramic model. Hang onto it, is my suggestion. This beauty will eventually grow on you.....trust me on this one. Good luck - JJ

Hey I'm glad you guys like it. I'll hang on to it for a month and try to wear it more. I figure I can always decide to flip it down the road, I think this one will hold its value. I'll get back to you guys to see if it grows on me. Dont get me wrong, I love how it looks, I just dont know yet if I'm a TT guy....

It looks great IMO and is one of my favourites but not an every day wearer for me.
Take your time and think about it.

I think *your* impressions are correct--it's not you. I love the blue and even the gold bezel but the stripe down the bracelet is not right.
Since you have a straight stainless bracelet that has been 'de-watched' I'd be trying that on the watch for starters. So what if it's not original on your wrist? Greg |
