aftermarket terminology
I have a question that I'm sure some of you gents (or ladies) can answer. In reference to "aftermarket" parts, i.e. dials, bracelets, bezels, etc., what separates the term "aftermarket" from "counterfeit"? If you put the Rolex coronet on something not manufactured by the Rolex corp, isn't that copyright infringement?

Counterfeit is an exact replica with the intention to deceive and defraud. Aftermarket declares upfront that it is not original. My 2 cents.

For example: an aftermarket dial would be an original Rolex dial with added diamonds.

Aftermarket, I believe, is a part that does not have any Rolex Trademarks.
Therefore any bracelet, bezel, dial, etc that that is not an original Rolex part and bears no Rolex markings would be aftermarket. However, if you add Rolex markings to an aftermarket part, the aftermarket part would then be considered counterfeit. If it is not manufactured by Rolex, it should not bear any Rolex trademarks. We have seen some parts in online auction sites that the seller denotes as aftermarket, which are in fact counterfeit. |

Original part = Exactly what came on the watch when it was manufactured.
OEM replacement part = (Original Equipment Manufacturer) = a Rolex manufactured part that has been replaced on the watch to bring it back to original configuration, or at least to what the RSC considers original configuration. The question for me regarding this type of part is would the RSC put the part on the watch. OEM part = a Rolex manufactured part, whether or not the RSC would put it on the watch. Examples would be having a different dial put on the watch like changing it from white to blue or changing the bracelet from Jubilee to Oyster. Aftermarket part = a non-Rolex part. Fake part = just that, a fake/wanabe part marked like a Rolex part in order to fool the buyer.
