Dad passes away, leaves me his Rolex.
My dad recently passed away unexpectedly on 06/09/2010. He left me his Rolex, a two tone Submariner with a blue dial. The receipt in the box indicates it was purchased in September of 1998 for around five thousand dollars. The watch had some wear and had never been serviced. I sent it in to RUSA in NY and was suprised when they asked me to insure it for over twice the amount. The watch should be back in a few weeks. His watch means so much to me because he was always wearing it and it almosts feels wrong to wear it.
So should I wear this watch every day or just on occation? I have a late model Tag so I at least have a watch to wear. It sucks that this is the way I am introduced to Rolex, but his watch means a lot to me and he always said he wanted me to have it one day. Is there anything I should know about this watch? 4 |

Sorry to hear about your Dad.
IMHO I think it would honor his memory if you wear it proudly.

So sorry to read of your loss.
I agree...wear the watch as he did...they are designed to be worn and it's likely its what he would have wanted you to do.

My condolences for your father.
This watch should be treasured and passed on. If it were me, I would wear it occasionally as I would be gutted if anything were to happen to it. |

Im so sorry to read such a post and condolences for your dad.
It just made me take a few moments to think of my dad! My dad is also really into watches. He has a Breitling and loves it dearly. He NEVER takes it off and says to me "whats the point of having a nice watch if its going to gather dust or sit in a box" I would wear it with absolute pride! |

I wear my dads watch (not Rolex). (he died of a heart attack at 63). I don't wear it everyday as I have others although it is the 2nd most valuable (to me) in my collection. Plus, it was a wedding anniversary present from my mum. My most prized watch is the one he bought me as a 21st present.
Sorry for your loss. It gets easier with time. In about 10 years you'll only think of him about once a day. |

I'm sorry for your loss. I'd like to add my name on the list of people recommending you to wear the watch proudly to honor your dad's memory. Probably not in the pool, and not while digging dust though, of course.

Sorry to hear about your dad - been there & its the worse of the worse
The one question I'd ask - your dads connection to the watch aside - do you actually like the look of the rolex ? If so - forget the value as you didn't spend that money. It'll come back from its service looking as good as new & wear it like it your dad did. The good thing about the rolex is that its good enough to get passed down from generation to generation so who's to say that in 30/ 40 years time - your kid might be asking the same question !! |

Please accept my condolences and I have a watch left to me when my Father passed away. Its a 6263 but as long as I am still breathing I would not sell it at any price its special for me.The TT subs have changed very little since 1988,the movement is the Cal 3135 and with just normal service should last many many years, wear it with pride and a tribute to your Father.

My mother left me a bracelet that Dad gave her on their honeymoon, and it hasn't been off my wrist except for repairs in more than 10 years. Every time I notice it, I remember. Every time I tell someone about it, I remember.
Wear it, and remember. Rolex makes a tough watch and it will last. Rolex reconditions their watches should it be damaged at all. My Rolex has been worn daily for almost 40 years and is still going strong. Wear it. Greg |

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. The blue dialled TT Submariner is an icon, and I agree with what others have said: Wear it. Enjoy it. It is a very nice watch, and yours is very special.
Just make sure you test it for waterproofness every second year. Best, A |

This was how I got introduced to Rolex, when my late father's bi-metal DJ passed to me.
It's special to me because it was his most treasured posession, and the only material object he had which meant anything to him, and as such other than some documentation, photos and memories it's the only remaining direct connection left to him for me. He wore it every day for nearly 20 years, and I continued to do so for a few years after I recieved it (my Mum didn't pass it on to me until a few years after he died). It's not really me though as a daily wearer, and it having such sentimental connection for me, meant I was getting a bit paranoid about it, so that a few years ago, I retired it to special wear use only. I replaced it with an Omega SMP, but after a year or so, I felt naked without a Rolex on my wrist, so that's why I replaced that with a Sub-date as my daily wearer. I'm sure he's looking down and smiling at the fact that he's eventually turned me into the Rolex-o-phile that he was when he was alive |
