They are now random serial numbers.
I believe they're done with V-serials.

They may still have new old stock, so don't be surprised to see V, M, or even Z serials still in display cases.
However, if you want the absolute newest, look for the random serial number (you'd see it on the engraved rehaut).
Early M-serials and older don't have an engraved rehaut, so you'd have to get them to remove the bracelet or show you the warranty card if you wanted to know the serial before you buy.

Not necessarily - ADs may have Z, M, V and the latest 'random' format.

Cheers

The letter series are just a Internet code of a approximation when a case was stamped. Its possible to have two different letters running concurrently in the same year.Plus models like the S.Steel will sell faster that the all gold models. And with movements like the cal 3135 it could be older or newer in a case with different letter series's.The latest case stamp is a V or the new random serials but the movement the main bit could be older or newer produced. Now considering the amount of say cal 3135 Rolex must have thousands sitting on shelves at Rolex. Plus the several hundreds down at COSC plus the ones in transit back from the COSC its just a case stamp. And no matter what the case stamp when bought new gets the same warranty. With most of the Rolex line the change since 1988 on most of the models is hardly worth a mention.

Fast moving SS models will, generally speaking, have the newer series, while slow moving precious metals usually will have an older series.

But note that Rolex birthdays are when the watch was sold, not the series it has on its case.

Currently....they are using random serial numbers.

Someone in there great wisdom, made this change.

Maybe it's going to be a way for Rolex to generate some more revenue on watch specifications, approximate production date, and authenticity. Similar to the way Omega does it...but charge you a fee.

is there a format for the ramdon serial number. Is it all numbers or number/letter combinations?

The new Sub C LN and LV are still with V series numbers.
They just came out this week. So Rolex is using, like Padi keeps repeating but nobody seems to listen, different serial numbers within the same time frame.

I am really happy soon this serial number question will be over. All random numbers the sooner the better. If the model is the same and bnib who cares about a number on a case ?

Is the Rehaut on the late model M's the same as the Rehaut on the V's?
