PVD coating voids Rolex warranty

Not sure if this has already been posted but Rolex just sent out a notice to its ADs that it will void all warranties on any watch that has had a PVD coating applied anywhere on the watch.

Which Rolex sent that out?
In Australia such a notice would be illegal and could get the company in a lot of trouble.

U.S.

Their statement is that the coating typically requires disassembling parts of the watch critical to being waterproof (such as the bezel) in order to go through the PVD process.

What does it matter? The warranty is 24 months correct. Lets have a poll. How many people have had warranty work done? I've owned 3 Rolexes and never had any warranty work done. Not that it can't happen but if you have enough money to buy a new Rolex and I spend a grand or more coating it, I don't think I would be worried about voiding a warranty. JMHO

Hi Eddie,

The consumer laws are quite specific and mandate statutory warrantees. It would be hard to argue with statute law, even for Rolex, although I guess it could be done.
