comex

Just managed to get a Rolex Comex which I am thrilled with. The case is marked 5513 and the inside case back is marked 5514,mall seriel numbers match the back and the case I think it must be a transition period from the 5513 to the 5514,the watch came from a old diver who got it from a Comex diver and has been in hid drwer for many years. The watch is missing the oridinal bracelet and dont knowe if I can get an original bracel to put back on the watch or if it would be better left as it is.Any info is greatly accepted have just become a memeber of this site although have been on here many times.

hi WW,

nice find... so its 5513 between the lugs.. full serial repeated in the caseback and it says 5514 inside the back? does it have a issue number on the outside of the caseback cant make it out from the scans.?

best bet is to put it into Rolex Uk for a servcie ( or at least an estimate) and write to them to ask its history .

do you have the first 4 of the serial?

Some info for you....
It doesn't seem to jibe with what the author of this page states.

don't know why Ed's never updated that page...there is of course many 5513 comex... some very early ones even without the helium escape valve... off the issue numbers the first 100-200 were pretty much all 5513 but with HEV and in fact are the true early pioneering watches.

i should say though that we regularly see normal 5513 drilled to fit an hev and caseback engraved.. or sometimes a loose original back fitted to a civvy 5513. Luckily Rolex can confirm which serials were delivered to Comex so provenance from them is pretty essential.

its always the topic of debate... which takes the crown... the early 5513 HEV comex.. the first the original .. or the 5514 with the unique reference number... model number reserved only for comex ....

heres my 5513...

I agree it is a stunning dial.......and hands I hope to get a dial and hands like that one day but a date would be my preference....something like a 1665
I've seen one for sale in Europe but paying in Euros the Aussie dollar just doesn't go far at all

well that make a lot more sense Paul, thats how a 5514 should be , and correct serial range - issue number probably in the late 300's??.

congratulations on a really nice find, i'd still strongly suggest getting it into Bexley for a service and a written confirmation if possible.

Very nice find Paul. It's a beauty

Here's my question. Between the lugs you see 5513.

But to get a timeline on your Rollie Comex, on the opposite side, what are the first two or three digits of the serial sequence between those lugs?
Thank you for sharing
