Hi folks!

Hello everybody!

New member here, although I've been slinking around reading the forums for a little while. I enjoy the good-natured banter.

Wife and I both sport Rollies - hers daily - mine when not at work (employer doesn't allow jewelry worth >$100).

Hers is a nice Date Lady Steel Oyster in blue, mine is a traditional Submariner.

Since I don't wear mine regularly, I'm thinking about investing in an auto-winder. I've been looking at a nice dual winder from Steinhausen, but was wondering if there was anything feature-wise that I should be looking for, i.e.: rotation direction, presentation angle, speed, etc. Also, is one of the programmable ones really necessary. A lot of questions on a simple subject, I know, but I'm kinda anal about things when researching them.

I'd sure appreciate any insight into the subject, and any specific recommendations folks might have from personal experience. BTW, Steinhausen is the only maker I am familiar with, but I am certainly open to others.

Thanks!!

Welcome to TRF well watch winders there are several brands out there some are really expensive for what they are.As for rotation well Rolex winds both ways programmable are handy, but to keep a Rolex fully wound it needs around 700-850 rotations a day.But IMHO watch winders only really necessary if you have watches with a lot of complications. It does no harm what so ever if watch stops to give it a manual wind, and setting the date/time again very easy to do.But brands like Orbita, Rapport, and Steinhausen are good

Thanks for the Welcome, and the comments, Padi. I suppose I don't "need" a winder - but the prospect of always having the timepiece set and running is appealing. I agree that many of the winders I have looked at seem overpriced for what they do though!
Perhaps I'll build my own - I'm always looking for a new and interesting woodworking project!

Welcome to TRF, Allen. Hope you enjoy your stay here. Could we have some pics of your Rollies?

Cheers - JJ

Thanks JJ!
I'll see if I can take some decent pics. My wife got me an Olympus E-500 digital camera for Christmas - I'm still trying to figure out all of the bells and whistles! lol

Attempt to post photo

Ok folks, I'm going to attempt and post a photo of my 16610. It isn't very artsy - just a first attempt with my new camera. If it posts ok, I'll try a few more creative ones later of both mine and the wife's, and post them under the photo topic. Constructive criticism readilly accepted!
