Need Help ......Rolex Tudor Rose 7928
Good Afternoon. I am obviously new to the forum and also new to Vintage watches. I recently had a family friend who was an old Navy Seal, gift to me a Rolex. The watch was recently serviced and was in remarkable condition. Rather than pay a huge fee for the apprasial I am wondering if anyone can help me explain what I have. On the watch are the numbers 7928 on one side of the watch and on the other 449XXX. I am not showing the last 3 numbers because I believe those are the serial numbers. Can someone please shed some light on the watch and maybe the value? Any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet is to visit Cleves and Lonnemann Jewelers in Bellevue, Ky [just across the river] and ask for Charlie or Mike. They're on vacation at the moment but should be back in a week. Charlie is a Rolex trained tech and can shed some light on your classic Sub. That way you have something is writing and Charlie will no charge much.
Is there an engraving on the case back? Military issue Subs command good $$. Best of luck, dP

I'm no expert of Tudor Subs of this era but do you know if the person who owned it was issued this watch while in the military? Or did they purchase it themselves while in the service?

I believe it was issued to him. He passed away and his wife has been gone for several years so I am in the dark on the history.

Many military Subs have engravings on the back [other than the Rolex engraving] although I know of one guy who was issued a Tudor Sub in the 70's while in the US Navy but it doesn't have any marks either.
Hope more experts chime in, we'll all learn more. BTW, welcome to TRF. dP

Apparently, the US Navy issued Tudor Prince Subs in 64 to 66 and that the later issue (early 70's to 1984) were the same as the Marine Nationale Sub.
according to this site: http://www.chronoarchive.com/watch/v...riner_7928_pcg a 409XXX+ serial would date it from 1963+. Also, Tudor stopped using the rose in the late 60's This would suggest that your serial number is probably consistent with the range for the first US Navy issue. Good luck in your search. |
