My Missing Rolex
Hello:
For background see my previous posts. I am confident that my appeal will be successful. If this is the case, I may be looking for a replacement Rolex. The one that "went missing" was a 1968 purchased 1501. I am very partial to this series. I really like the simple, clean look of the stainless steel Rolex of that era. Appreciate any advice on where is the best place to find one at a reasonable cost. I have been looking and bidding on eBay without success. Can anyone recommend the better eBay sellers? What about reliable individuals or firms that sell Rolexes online. Anyone out there have a recently serviced 1500 or 1600 series that they want to sell? |

My Missing Rolex
Hello:
It looks like I have been overtaken by events. Was away from home today and placed what I thought was a low bid on a VINTAGE TUDOR PRINCE OYSTERDATE 2784 WATCH and won it! Not exactly what I wanted, but it is now mine. It comes with a leather strap and I want a SS one. Can someone tell me what to look for in a SS band? Should I look for a Tudor one or a generic one? Any comments on a Tudor 2784? Guess I should check past posts! |

My Missing Rolex/Tudor
Hello:
Forget my last post about winning a Tudor on eBay. For reasons that I don't want to go into now, the transaction was canceled. I am still looking for a 1968 vintage recently serviced Date or Date Just 1500 or 1600 series at a reasonable price. Should I keep on trying eBay or can you recommend any firms or private dealers? Anyone out there have a watch similar to the above that they want to sell? Appreciate any advice on replacing my missing Rolex. |

I would suggest you post an advertisement in the Want to buy section here on TRF as well.

Appeal Successful
I found out yesterday that the Insurance Claim Appeal was successful. Unfortunately, the check is going to the mailer, and not me! I only hope that he will send me the full amount and not deduct the cost of cleaning and servicing. Based on legal advice received, I do not have to pay for a service I did not receive since I did not receive the benefit of the service. I did not receive the watch. It has taken almost six months from the filing of the initial claim, subsequent appeal, and a positive decision. Yes, I will begetting some cash, but since the watch was under insured I do not think that I can replace it. A good friend on my wrist for the better part of 42 years gone forever.

I would definitely try to find a correct Tudor bracelet if you are happy with the watch and want to keep and wear it. Check with some of the sellers here. I'm sure they could come up with the proper bracelet for you.

Appeal Successful, But!
For those of you who have been following the long saga of my Missing Rolex, it is not over yet. The USPS Insurance Claim was for $1500.00 for the Rolex that was serviced but "lost" in the mail! Well, today I got a check from the guy that sent me the watch that never arrived. Instead od the full $1500.00 settlement that USPS sent him, he DEDUCTED $365.00 for "Repairs Due" and even failed to present me with a proper invoice, bill, or receipt!!! What do you think of that? It looks like I have to sue him in Small Claims Court. Based on legal advice received he has no right to charge/deduct for a service when I did not benefit from that service. I did not receive the watch he serviced!!! Anyone ever use a Small Claims Court? Any advice on this matter is appreciated. C |

Sorry to hear that Art. Have you talked to him? If so what did he say? If he is not responsive, time to provide his details so it does not happen to someone else. Also give your feedback in the reference section. There is also a watchmaker's referral/reference in the
Stange, why is steve blocking is own IP?? http://************/showthread.php?t=32666 http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=32666 Here as well http://************/forumdisplay.php?f=28 http://www.rolexforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28 If he gets on-line business, this will cost him more than $400. If you have the S/N, turn it into Rolex as stolen. Maybe someday it will show up. |

My Missing Rolex
Hello CaveDiver
Thanks. Appreciate your comments and suggestions. The person in question is not really a watchmaker! He is an antique dealer who sells vintage Rolex watches, paintings, and other quality antique items. He has a large Rolex advertising sign prominently displayed above his booth. He tells all his customers that he is "authorized" to work on Rolex watches. I think he does some minor servicing but farms out most of the work to someone else. I have informed him in an email of my concerns, citing legal arguments on why he can not withhold $365.00 for repairs to a watch that I never received. I have also reported him to my state's Consumer Protection Agency. The next step is to meet with a legal aid lawyer to explore the grounds for a Small Claims Court action to recover my funds. Not sure what else I can do. Will let this play out before I go public with his name. |

My Missing Rolex
Hello to All Still Following this Thread!
I have been remiss in not updating my saga! I put pressure on the guy that failed to take common sense measures to return my Rolex to me after it was serviced and "lost" by USPS. In addition to putting the Va. Consumer Protection Agency on him, I got in touch with one of his antique show promoters and explained my situation. She used her influence with him (he depends on her shows for his income), and he sent me the remaining $365.00 of the $1500.00 insurance settlement. I do not believe that I want to reveal his name on this forum. He did not do anything illegal, but he was stupid and unprofessional in his handling of my Rolex! However, if any of you visit an antique show in Virginia or North Carolina and see a fellow with a large Rolex logo above his booth, use caution in your dealing with him. |

My Missing Rolex
Hello All Still With Me
Forgot to mention on my last post that, after receiving the $365.00, I asked him for the serial number of my Rolex so I could report it to Rolex or the police, etc. He replied that he had no record of it! This only proves how incompetent he was in the matter. For all I know the watch is sitting in a local pawn shop! |
