Leaving Rolex for Breitling

I'm trading a submariner for a brand new superocean steelfish plus some cash (to take care of a bill). Anyways can anyone let me know how the accuracy is on a breitling? I know they are cosc, and the one I'm getting is a caliber 17. Is this an eta movement? Or an in-house movement. I've only owned Rolex, so I'm naive to breitling. Thanks for any help with this.

ETA based movement. Very accurate. YOu will not be disappointed in the Breitling.

I'm sure I will be happy with it. I'm just skeptical after only having first hand experience with rolex. But I like the look of breitlings watches in general. And thank you for your responses. I look forward to adding future post about my new addition once it's here.

I have also made the switch

In the last month and a half I have left Roles and picked these guys up. I had my submariner on the other day and have to tell you it felt like junk as far as Weight goes. Dont get me wrong I still love Rolex but for the price point the Breitling is killing them.

I've been wondering these exact questions, after the smoke clears you'll have to tell us how you feel about the brand having worn one for a bit.

I have my heart set on a skyland avenger myself. I have always liked Breitling, and think they make a very nice watch.

My main concern is the newer models could have a quartz movement depending on which watch. I'm no fan of quartz, or digital.

The resale on Breitling isn't very good either. I do like the heavy weight, and type steel used. You can polish a Breitling like butter!

In Steelfish you`ll have the same mov`t as in regular Superocean - COSC certified ETA 2824-2. It`s really good and reliable caliber, and it`s accuracy is impressive. My dad`s Superocean is losing HALF of second per day, which is remarkable for ANY mechanical watch, no matter what brand.

My Colt GMT gains about 1 second per day. Excellent watches, love Breitlings, love it as much as Rolex.

Got the superocean, and actually am happier with it than I was with the subdate. Don't get me wrong, my subdate was my most treasured piece, but the breitling has a more modern sophisticated look to it. Rolex is classic, but after owning 6, maybe I'm just ready for a change. And so far I have no regrets. The size, the solid links, the cosc automatic mvmt, and the cambered sapphire crystal create quite a piece of art. As for the resale value, I agree it's considerably less than rolex. But unlike my rolex I've owned, I have no plans to get rid of the superocean.

You guys Had me looking at Breitlings again. I pulled the trigger on an Avenger skyland chrono.

I haven't even thought of how to hide it from my wife.

It should be here mid week. That mailman better be stealth. My sweet spouse is going to flip. I might tell her it was sent to me for safekeeping.

That's not a lie

Breitlings are very nice but their pricepoints are getting out of hand and they don't hold value. Say what you will about Rolex but they last and keep value.

I have an Avenger Seawolf (caliber 17) and it gains 3.5 - 4 seconds daily (either on winder or when I wear it).

Here's one that's neither "blingy" or heavy:

The original (Ti) Avenger Seawolf.
I believe that at 10,000' WR, it was the world's deepest depth rated mechanical watch until the DSSD.

Another breitling model

Generally overlooked, and under-rated: the excellent windrider cockpit series big date, non-chrono. Is morphing into Galactic 41; this season. Good weight, decent bling, excellent 'guts" very good value.

I have 2 Breitlings and have had good luck with both. The Superocean is a wonderful watch that has a much nicer and sturdier bracelet as compared to the Sub.

A friend of mine once said, "It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission." So I think you've got it right.

And bruises, however deep, dark and expansive, will heal, and then you have a nice watch!

i like the old titanium avenger pieces, they are all ETA and even the new ones arent a true "in house" its just a remade ETA.

I've just gone the other way and left Breitling for Rolex - Rolex are on a different level in my opinion.

I still have a few Breitling collectables i'm thinking of selling now, Pen Knife by Wenger and a Red Lanyard for example.

I had this problem last week when I bought my Rolex Daytona...I decided I'd best come clean and tell the wife. She was not happy, gladly she has now calmed down, though i had to agree to pay £125 to have her Baume & Mercier Serviced and Polished up like new - Well worth it though!

I have these two

The Sub is special of course but compared to the Evo it LOOKS like the cheaper of the two by long chalk.
I've had the Sub for a while now and The only people I've met that are impressed by it are sub owners. None watch people just think its a cheap watch with a Rolex badge.
The Evo I've had for one day. I was impressed with it from first sight. Naturally I showed it to work mates and unlike the Submariner everyone said wow that's nice it looks really expensive.
Both watches are the same age 07 but the Sub cost me £1k more than the expensive looking Chronomat Evo.
I am a Breitling fan that thinks he should own a Rolex.

Fine Movements

I have my eye on a pre worn Chrono Cockpit, with gold markers. But I have promised my wife I will wait awhile until I move on it. She thinks I already have too many watches.

I am also fascinated with the Emergency model with a transmitter.

I think Breitling is well made based on what I have read, never had one yet.
