Inkwells???
Does anyone use an inkwell as opposed to just filling your FP's straight out of the bottle? I know it's just an added step, and pretty unnecessary these days, but I dig them.
I really want one to put on my desk at work, but all the ones I've seen on the 'bay are either so old they don't look like they're going to seal, or are just way too plain (I'm not looking for a glass bottle with a bakelite cap). I don't want my ink to evaporate on me. So does anyone know of anywhere I can get a nifty inkwell that's functional? Also, if anyone has pics, please post them up! ![]()

Little country auctions usually have some, keep an eye on 'The Bee' it's the antique newpaper for collectors.
http://antiquesandthearts.com/ Inkwells enjoy a small but very loyal following of collectors; there is an interesting and diverse amount out there.

Thanks Chris,
That site seems to have a lot of good resources. I appreciate it!

Unfortunately, due to their very nature, inkwells will almost always have some evaporation, regardless of age and design. I have an inkwell on my desk which I use regularly...but...*shrug* Don't expect it to be an airtight ink-bottle. That's not what they were designed for and it won't be how they'll act.

FPs are already messy, I hate to imagine what would happen should your ink well get bumped. But hey, I too like to do things the hard way!

Funnelwells do pretty good at combatting evaporation and spills. Most of the water that evaporates condenses on the top and drips back in. You can tip one and it does not spill. Funnelwells have a heart-shaped cross section. I have a number in different sizes...I will have to post a picture.

Thanks Kings, are they readily available, or kind of a specialty item?

They have not made them in a long time, but you regularly see them on ebay. I did a quick perusal and found one. Item number: 200527468550
![]() ![]() The hole in the top is small. When you are not using the inkwell tou can put a small cork in the hole, or just set a marble or small rubber ball on top. |
