Dropped the Hammer

Visited two local ADs today and walked out with my first, long-awaited, Rolex.
In my 1st submission(below) I was torn between the SS Sub/Date and the SS GMT II of same style. Of course, when I went looking, one AD had the Sub I was looking for and the other had the GMT. GMT dealer wouldn't budge on price (neither AD knew me from Adam), although he had 4 in stock
(1 all black bezel, 1 pepsi, 2 red/black). When I tried on the Sub I knew it was the one. Perfect fit right out of the box. AD discounted me the sales tax (6% here) without batting an eye so my out the door price was 5175. I didn't think this was bad, since I had no relationship with the store and I was paying by credit card. (It is a Z serial-2006). Wore it home. It will take plastic surgery to wipe the smile off my face. Will post pics when I can. Thanks to all.

All of us probably wish we could once again have that feel of our first Rolex. Although I have not been an owner long, the first one was magical!! Huge congratulations! I know exactly how you feel.

As a fellow resident of the Hoosier state, I am wondering if I know the two ADs you visited, and I would be curious to know if your AD experience with them is the same as mine.

Congrats to you Sandman!

That high of wearing a new Rolex for the first time is incredible. Your NEXT one, as was mine, will be just as good as the first.

Way to go Sandman...

You cannot go wrong with a Sub. I'm almost envious of that new watch feeling. I'm wearing my SD today (even though I'm on duty). There's a local watch maker right by my station and he was taking care of a timing issue I had with my Seiko from a few days ago. I really thought he'd be done this morning... ah well... just another 42 hours to go...

Maybe it'll be finished tomorrow and I can give the SD a break for my second day on.

Wear it in good health and have a great weekend!

Congrats on the Sub! Where in Indiana were the ADs you were buying from if you do not mind me asking?

I remember my first like it was yesterday. Fall of 1993 - SS Sub ND that I got a screaming deal on from an AD (the sister of my friend worked there). I think I shed a tear. I have been hooked ever since.

Congratulations!

Thanks to all. I feel great. Went out tonight and felt special.
For those who asked, I live in Floyds Knobs, Indiana, just across the
river from Louisville, KY. Bought the watch from Davis Jewelers in St. Matthews, east of downtown Louisville. Since I live in Indiana, my AD offered to ship it to save me sales tax, but I wanted to wear it home, so she discounted me the sales tax. So I paid 5175 OTD. She never mentioned a cash deal, and didn't seem to care at all that I was paying by credit card.
I'd be happy to give a referral, for whatever it is worth.
So how'd I do? If I got screwed, don't say anything!
Have a couple of pics. Still trying to figure out how to post them.

5175 OTD is fine... There isn't a member on here that doesn't appreciate a deal and getting discounts etc... however... we really do love the brand and I've a feeling that even if we couldn't get that "good guy price", we'd still be wearing our watches*.

I'm glad she worked with you on the sales tax...
shipping it home might have saved you something more, however there's nothing in the world like walking out of the AD with a new Rolex on your wrist.

You basically did the impossible on this day. You bought time with your money. No amount of money could ever buy this day back for you, so you wore your rolex home. This decision sets you appart. Relish that, my friend.

CHEERS!

*Maybe not as many of our watches, but you get my point.
