SS yachtmaster owners the crown etching .....

For those that own the SS/plat YM's . Is the crystal etching almost imposible to see on yours? On my sub 16610 its was pretty easy to find but on the YM its sooo faint bearly there. does this have the to do with the color of the dial?...maybe better to see on black subs?

they do show up better against darker backgrounds...

I don't have any YM, so pardon my responding to your post. I do however have dark and light colored dials on my watches, and on the white one, I coulda sworn there wasn;t an etching until I saw it in a pic I had taken using ambient lighting.

Here's a tip... if it can be spotted with the naked eye (i.e. no magnification), there's a chance the watch is a replica.

Very hard to see against a white, champagne or silver dial.

Easiest against the dark blue of the Sub as well as any black dial.

Definitely easier to see with a darker dial

On my son's plat YM & wife's MOP DJ the coronet is barely visible even with the loupe and oblique lighting, my GMT however is ridiculously easy to find.

WOW! What an amazingly clear picture, Chris.

May I ask what camera you are using?

Thanks - JJ

Thanks JJ

It was taken with my son's compact Canon S2 IS, he chose this camera as it was the only one he could find at the time where the macro function focused down to zero, the lens was almost resting on the bezel for that pic.

It's really quite a neat camera although its a couple of years old now so I'm sure thats there's others that are just as good or better, here's another pic to show it's versatility.

I love how you can see 11 distinct movements of the second hand over an exposure of just over one second!

It all depends on the colour of the dial. I find it easiest with my TT Blue Sub....that's probably because that's the best damn BLUE in the whole wide world!!
