Rolex Price Differences...
I was browsing through alanfurman.com again and looking through the Rolex prices and noticed that some watches tend to be higher priced than others for obvious reasons... day dates being the most expensive for obv reasons... but why are certain subs more expensive than certain GMT's? the material they are made of are the same... is the movement inside the watches the same? The GMT's can show 2 timezones but the sub can't but the sub is still priced higher? I always believed in the "you get what you pay for" saying but I dont think either of the two are VERY rare.... so can anybody guess as to why rolex prices them differently? both are beauty watches btw

yeah i agree the 16610 Sub date is the quintessential Rolex and probably is the most sought after... but its not rare is it? Unless its the LV, i dont think it would to hard to attain... am i wrong?

List price of SS Sub-date = $5175 List price of SS GMT-II = $5075 So the difference ain't much....a mere hundred bucks. JJ

By the way, the Sub-Dates and GMT II are priced exactly the same in Canada (Toronto). The LV for obvious reasons was priced more. The AD I visited did have one Sub-No Date in the case, but I had zero interest in it. For obvious reasons, this model was about $1500 less than either of the Sub-Dates and the GMT II. My SD was roughtly $200 more than the Sub-Date and GMT II, however, that's due to the bigger crystal, the helium valve, the toolkit, etc so this watch is obviously more than any of the other two. |

I see how Furman has really come down on his Sub LV price! He used to be asking over $7000, now it is around $6000.

The sub is also rated for deeper depths than the GMT so that could explain the slight difference in MSRP.

I find the whole 'rare' rolex watches issue very misleading
I do not believe that most models are rare ... within 2 hours I am sure I can find most of the so called rare models by simply going to 3 - 4 AD's in Central London. I have seen second had Explorer I's and Subs (no date) going for more than brand new ones ! (not Vintage but simply 2nd hand). In one case when I asked the dealer 'why?' he said because there are hard to find. I kid you not, I had seen a few minutes prior to that, a new one in the window of an AD only 2 mins walk away. When I told him, he just smiled. I think if (obvioulsy in the bigger cities) you do a bit of leg work you can get what ever you are looking for there and then |

The sub is also beefier, than the GMT.

So I'd take it that you still haven't bought your rolex yet?

One Reason Is The Dial
When I was pricing a TT Sub 16613, I called and asked why the price difference for the same watches. I wanted the serti dial set with brilliants and saphires. The brilliants were set by Rolex on one dial while they were set by Furman's jewler on the the less expensive dial. I went with an AD and I purchased the authentic set dial.

I have to agree....supply and demand.
In Canada, namely the greater Toronto area, it seems that 95% of the local AD's have an LV. But, from what I hear they are tougher to come by in the States. |
