Men's President Date - solid 18K - HELP needed on price
Friends,
I have been offered a Men's President Date - solid 18K - E series - bought in 1990 and verr lightly worn. Is it good to buy this 17 year watch? What would be a fair price to pay for it. Your advice in this regard will be very helpful. Thanks in advance. |

Well not a problem with any 17 year old Rolex watch now a 18238 will have the Cal 3155.A great movement, now price around the $8000-$8750 perhaps a bit more for a mint example with box papers etc trade price less.
There is a much newer one for sale in our own forum. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=14491

Sure it's ok to buy an older watch. If it's in good condition and you like it go for it. Do you know the service history? For sure the watch should have been serviced at least once by now and is in need of another if not already done. I'm not sure of price, but depending on condition of the watch and bracelet I think you're looking at $6-8k. Maybe more if it's got a special dial. Got a pic? |

Thanks a bunch for the replies.
I am attaching a pic. I dont tthink the watch has ever been serviced. It has the box, papers etc. Seller claims he has only worn it 5 times. |

Thanks again
He is asking $6000 for it. Negotiable.
I will defintely have my jeweler appraise it before buy it. I will then have it get it serviced immediately. What would be good price to negotiate? Thanks |

That's not a President. President is a type of bracelet that comes on the Day-Date. That watch is a Gold Date - still nice, but way different in terms of resale value. This watch has a hollow bracelet and a smaller head than the DateJust. Therefore, I think $4k is more in line for that watch.

With so much money being dealt with, I would recommend you check out an AD to make a purchase. You could get a sweet new Rolex for that kinda money and all the perks an AD offers.

Yep, that's a Rolex Date model, but NOT a President. The President is a Day-Date with the special bracelet that was called the President, attached to the new Day-Date model, and one was presented to Dwight Eisenhower, thus building upon the entire watch being called the President.
Nice Date, though! ![]()

babuzcool... im gonna give you my personal opinion here... #1... That is no president day-date.... Day-dates always have the Monday/tuesday/wed...etc... it looks like a date model and 6K is WAY too much for that in my opinion. especially if it is 17 years old. you can get one brand new for approximately the same price. I dono if the price i'd give it is really low but i wouldnt pay more than 3.5K for it.

Yeah, and not only a solid gold President (as all Presidents are) - but a BARK DD!!! You are a lucky owner, my friend!

As the owner of a 14K Date model, everything observed and reported thusfar is correct. That isn't a Day-Date Presidential. If this is a watch you're interested in, first figure out if it's 18K or 14K. There are more 14K models floating around than 18K. From that era, it would likely have an 8 or 9 million serial number.
Also note the Oyster bracelet is a rivet bracelet that limits the amount of adjustment that can be made. You have only the clasp adjustment, no removable links. A price of $4000 appears to be what these pieces are going for. It's a great watch...just make sure you're getting what you think you are getting if this is what you'd like to purchase. |

After all the fantastic feedback and information, I have decided to go in for a newer watch (maybe a TT SS ) for the money I am planning to spend. But, nothing is certain till have my dream Rolex around my wrist.
