Greedy thoughts

It's not even cold out of the box and I'm thinking about moving the Sub C on after the next UK price rise. My logic?

I can put my name down on a new list and pick another up at a later date but use the profit to reduce the net cost to me.

Stupid idea?

Yes, greedy thought but it's doable IMO.

But does it really worth the hassle when the Sub-Cs aren't really selling that well?!?

Hmmm interesting but not sure it's worth the hassle. Also they are pretty available now worldwide so you'd struggle to get sizeable margin out of it imho.

I wasn't looking at selling over list but I get a discount before hand so may have been worth it.
Anyway, I'm out inti town this evening and it's on my wrist so can't see it leaving my possession anyway!

You're dreaming. There's no profit to be made there.

And if there were, how much do you think you'd make or lose. I suspect you're going to be fighting odds that are naturally stacked against you. But I don't know what you know so...

I suppose if you can get 10% discout off list and find one before the price hike you might able too do it?
But what's the point ?

Reputable sellers on other forums are selling this for under list already...

These aren't even moving at all at RRP. On another forum there is one going for £200 (second hand) under list and it's been listed for ages.

In my opinion stick with yours...it prob isn't worth the hassle for a few pounds.

Once you have worn the piece and all stickers are off, you will struggle to get 4k for the sub c. One on line watch dealer only offered me 4k for one with all seals.

Is this a discussion about Rolex watches and the enthusiasts that enjoy a good timepiece..

Or an exercise in materialism..

You obviously value your time differently than I do. Too much hassle, potential risk etc. Just enjoy your watch. Or not.

Not to mention the impending increase in vat. Seems like a waste of time to me. Just wear it and enjoy it and make a few quid the old fashioned way.

Sounds to me like you don't realise how much money you lost when you walked out the door with your Sub C on your wrist.

Not so Trevor. (it was still boxed!) I was offered a value by a respected UK grey seller which would have made me £300 without any hassle. Now £300 may not be worth the hassle but it's still a decent return given the current UK interest rates!

The simple maths of this were that I may have been able to reduce the net cost to me for a watch i want - can't see anything wrong with that. Indeed it may be more hassle than it's worth but it was worth considering IMHO.

Have to agree Larry, sure there are now a new breed of Rolex watch wearers today.Myself always bought watches because I liked them, owning a Rolex is not always thinking just about profit.

A total waste of time, IMO. It doesn't appear to be a desirable watch, judging by lukewarm sales.

To me materialism / capitalism is the reason we are able to enjoy these fine timepieces....

That sounds a little condecending to me, new breed indeed. I've had an interest in watches since I was a small child and hence why the Tag i had for my 18th Birthday has been on my wrist every day since.

This isn't about making a profit on the watch for profits sake, this was about making a watch "cheaper" for me by moving one on allowing me to have some additonal funds to put against another.

Agreed.

But it's difficult to avoid talk about making or saving money - witness the number of threads on the virtues of buying secondhand to make flipping easier or discussions on whether such-and-such a watch makes a good investment.

Risky idea. Who knows what the demand really is at this stage? I tried one on yesterday, so they are available outwith waiting lists.

Too much hassle for me. But not an impossible thought. Finding a buyer may be trickier as others have stated, the subc isn't that hot at the moment..

I don't think it was ment to be condecending. There are those of us that have worn these watches for more years than many have been alive.

Many have used these watches in the manner they were ment to be used--as timepieces and tools for a purpose. They built histories and memories with them. They counted on them.

Many have kept their "veterans" when they could have sold them for many multiples of the original price, but that thought never crossed their minds.

Most all of us sell a watch now and then (dealers excluded), but the real profit in this hobby is the years of enjoyment that special watch and it's memories bring.
