Hi,

I've been on TRF for a while. However, this is the first time I've ventured to Pens and writing instruments section.
I've a couple of questions. First one it's a two-part.
Can I carry my fountain pen in my shirt pocket and do I need to be concerned with leaking?
Second, I'm extremely interested in the Mark Twain FP writers edition. Can anyone recommend a "brick and mortar" MontBlanc authorized dealer? I contacted a MontBlanc boutique and was given a quote over $ 900 with no discount.

try, fountainpenhospital.com they are a brick and mortar store in New York. I purchased a few MB at a discount from them. They are also an authorized dealer for MB, so your warranty will still be valid.

Thanks Adrain! Now what about leaking? Is it "safe" to keep my FP in my shirt pocket without worrying about possible leaking?

You should be fine with carrying a FP in your shirt pocket. I have one clipped on my shirt every day (MB 144). If you're using a cartridge/converter style, just make sure whichever you're using is firmly in place.

You should be fine with carrying a fountain pen...I've been using one for 11 months without any leaking problems. As for where to purchase as said Fountain Pen Hospital does do a little discounting which you will not find at a MontBlanc boutique!!!

I carry a 149 or a 146, have not had an issue with leaking.

About leaking - If you buy new, and you fill it with ink and leave it in upright position overnight and it doesn't leak, you should be fairly certain that it won't leak in your pocket, as long as you keep it upright i.e. nib pointing to the sky. Ebay pens can be problematic. If you fly, make sure the pen is upright, I have also put my pens in pen case horizontally during air travel and they are ok, but factory said you should keep it upright. When I fly I usually carry a ballpen, easier for the immigration/customs forms too.

Goto Fountain Pen Hospital as others suggested. They give approx 10-15% discounts on MB pens. Go there and spoil yourself

I bought a mark twain FP from fountain pen hospital in NY. I got it around 10% off and shipped...

I leave my pen in the desk drawer laying on it's side, is that bad or will that cause it to leak? I honestly don't know...

I've left mine sideways for quite some time without problems. I can't really find a holder to keep upright, so I just leave it flat. No worries so far.

ADDED: Mine is a modern FP, not too sure about vintage ones, they may have a problem stored flat.

FOUNTAIN PENS DO NOT LEAK.

If fountain pens leaked, nobody would buy them. I have three dozen fountain pens.

So they don't leak. You have nothing to worry about. Provided you don't break it, it's going to be fine.
