Speedmaster Pro 3570 vs 3573 (or 3572?)

Hi,

Long time reader, first time post. Love the review / support you guys give.

Going to buy a speedy in the next couple of weeks and just wanted thoughts on which one is the best one to get. I am currently set on the 3570 but depending on the comments here, I will be open to new options.

I have checked around and have found at least 1 store that have 1 of the watches in stock (even the 3572). I was able to get 1 quote of the 3570 to 3800AUD and rest prob can go to 20% from RRP.

It's really up to you on which version you want. I would go for a used 3572 just because it has a hesalite with a sapphire case back. I like it.

1AUD is like almost equivalent of 1USD right now. Paying 3800 for a 3570 is a RIP OFF.

PM Fr. John for his FAD. He definitely has the hook up.

Yeah the problem in AUS is that everything is expensive and I been around to the all the ADs and they all pretty much the same line / quote. I don't know other parts of the world but in AUS the 3800 for brand new 3570 seem to be the cheapest that I can find....

Also whats FAD?

FAD is a favorite authorized dealer.

PM jmsrolls and ask him for the hook up!

I thought the 3572 had sapphire for the crystal AND caseback, hence the nickname: Sapphire Sandwich?

At any rate, that may have changed. I would stick with the watch with the most Moonwatch DNA - the 3570!

Loving mine on an Omega Deployant strap. Bracelet is cool as well.

The standard Speedy Pro with steel "Flight Qualified" back is the 3570.50. comes with the hesalite crystal like those worn by the astronauts.

The 3573.50 has sapphire crystals front and back, hence "sapphire sandwich". Unfortunately the "sapphire sandwich" has the unsightly "gray halo" next to the bezel and incorrect wording ("First and Only") on the caseback. (A Waltham, not a Rolex, was also worn on the moon.)

The 3572.50 was the predecessor of the current "sapphire sandwich" and came with the hesalite front crystal, sapphire back crystal, and correct "First Watch Worn On The Moon" engraving on the caseback.

Although discontinued, nice examples of the 3572.50 show up frequently on eBay and the sales corners. It is my favorite of the modern Speedy Pros.

Many prefer the "sapphire sandwich" fearing scratches but take it from one who has owned a dozen or more Speedy Pros, including the "sapphire sandwich", scratches are a non-issue.

The "best one to get" is always subjective and certainly up to the individual..

there are many options today and the sapphire crystal is a strong contender due to it's resistance to abuse and use in higher end watches..

Either way the Speedy is a GREAT watch, and a pretty good value - relative to say a Daytona. I also prefer the black bezel of the Speedy Pro.

Thanks for the info Father John!

Woot!
