I'm Blue...but in a good way!

So...I know I'm an idiot. 2 months ago I did not even own a Rolex. Recieved one as a gift (Air King) and the bug bit me bad. Got the LV next, not so much out of choice, but from a great sales pitch on the 50th Anniversary aspect of it blah, blah. Did not really like it at first, but it has really grown on me.

However, I have coveted and wanted a TT Blue Submariner badly and viewed it as my dream watch! I resisted the urge as best I could, but the fear of a potential price hike combined with a good price and a good feel (it smiled so widely at me), well I pulled the trigger and bought one yesterday. I could not be happier.

Let me tell you the story of the journey to the purchase. Went to two ADs. Tried to work my magic on a discount. Both responded, "Absolutely not, not on a "sports model"..besides, these things (TT Blue Subs) sell themselves." No dice on a discount.

Went to a third AD. As luck would have it the owner waited on me. I asked for a discount. He shuffled and got nervous while averting his eyes. Again he said no and added "I'm sorry, Rolex Rules." I looked at him deadpan and said "Don't worry, I'm not a secret shopper." He laughed and said "Ok 10% off, that's the best I can do." He said he could get me one in three weeks. I wanted one today, knowing that in three weeks I might chicken out. He took my number down and said "I'll call you when I get one, no obligation."

I went to the final AD. I had been there a few times before. The sales staff remembered me and were polite. Really polite. Considering that I had been in there a few times before they could have groaned thinking, "Oh Geez, not this loser guy who browses for an hour and never buys. (By the way, the AD where I got my LV and AK from also steadfastly refused to discount the TT Blue Sub.) Thier loss.

So I tell them, that I am ready to buy a TT Blue Sub and that I am ready today. Out comes a cup of coffee for me and we get down to negotiations. I don't see one in the case, but they tell me they have one at thier other store across town and that I can have it tomorrow (today.)

They offer it at list $7825. I explain to them that I can get 10% at another AD nearby. They have a group huddle and come back, "Ok 10%." I throw in that I want a SS Daytona eventually and that I will buy this watch and one more (eventually if and when they get me a Daytona.) They give me the best assurances that they could. Inside it did not matter whether they actually come through on a Daytona, because unbeknownst to them I was getting a Blue Sub no matter what.

Bam, out pops the credit card. Picked it up today. No buyer's remorse. Its beautiful! Breathtaking! My LV is "green with envy" and will be a bit ignored for awhile.

Last night of course I knew I bought it but the only people I shared that with (by PM) were JJ for inspiring me with his love of the TT Blue Sub and Prince for being so helpful in updating my picture signiture. Speaking of pictures, I still suck at taking them, but please enjoy!

By the way I love the new cardboard box that the hard green box comes in. It opens and the Rolex logo folds out. Does anybody know what I am talking about? By the way for those who are curious, its a Z serial number.

I am also going to post two really cute pics of my poor little dog and the new Sub in the post your pets pic thread. Poor thing had knee surgery yesterday. I bought the watch while she was in surgery. It cheered me up.

Perhaps I'm showing my idiocy, but what the hey.
What's the deal with the Z serial number #, and why are (were) you fearing a price hike?
Thanks.

Maudy-
The "Z" serial number indicates that the watch is from the group of TT Subs most recently produced by Rolex. Rolex indicates the approximate month and year their watches are produced with lettered serial numbers. The most recent is Z, previous is D, and then F before that, I believe. Many AD's will have watches of the same model number from different production runs, so if you're passionate about having the newest one out there, ask for a Z. Either way the Rolex warranty begins at time of purchase, so a Z, D, F, etc Rolex will all have the same warranty.

The "price hike" concern is triggered by rumors that Rolex will be raising their suggested retail prices sometime in the second quarter of this year (I believe April, right guys?) I think it's uncomfirmed at this time, but what a great selling tool. AD's every where will be whispering "buy before the price increase!!"

Congrats, Tim.....at last!! While I can forgive you for your lousy camera work , the superb trio of Rollies more than make up for that.

You really need to use the MACRO mode setting on your camera and NO FLASH!! Use a TRIPOD if you can and you should get good pics. My eyes have turned watery from all those blurry pictures!! LOL!!

Wear the new Blue Sub in good health, my friend, and thanks for sharing!!! You do have a fine collection now!!

Good luck - JJ

Welcome to the Blues Brother Club ....

Personally,I would have bought from the AD that gave you less 10%,out of his own.Even if you had to wait 3 weeks. The one you bought from ,only gave you less 10%,after you told them you could get that amount of discount from another AD.I usually dont to business like that.I bargain hard, but dont tell them I can get this and that from elsewhere.Just a principle ..

I would however, visit the AD,where you bought the previous watches from and show him the new Blue TT Sub.The next time he will surely give you a discount from the start.

All said, you did well ,with less 10% in the States on a sport model Rolex .. Seek and ya shall find !!

Enjoy the Blue King !! Like you said, the LV must now be looking "greener" than usual ..

Kansai,

Nice AIR KING! I wasn't familiar with that marker set up, I thought they were diamon markers...Nonetheless, it looks very nice
