Thomas Mann

Just received my first Mont Blanc "Writer's Edition"- a Thomas Mann rollerball. (FP purists should avert their eyes now...)
The box & booklet

Spine of the 'book' box

The first glance...

Ahhhhh...there he is!

Caps, side by side w/ my Classique (my daily for the past 10 years)

And a profile shot next to my Classique

First impression is the girth of this thing...it's quite large & weighty. Very pretty and comfortable in the hand. I look forward to using it!

Congrats on getting this beauty! It's an awesome pen.
I think it was measured before that the Mann is the heaviest Writers' edition pen so there you go.

Why is this pen so heavy, it looks like it has a black resin base material?

Good question...All I can contribute is that the barrel is quite thick, MUCH thicker than my other pen.

By the way, it looks pretty classy, and it's packaging seems pretty cool too. You even got it with the plastic sealed bag which means it must have been 'brand new' when you got it.

Thanks Stevo!
And yes...got it BNIB from Fountain Pen Hospital.

And today I'm expecting my first fountain pen...just an inexpensive Monteverde 'Invincia' to try it out. If I like it (the FP) then I'm really in trouble.

Not exactly. The pen is lacquered (due to the metal stripes) The heavy part is the cap - 24.5g. The barrel part is 31.9g.
Compared to a 149 - 10.8g for cap and 21.4g for barrel, it's way heavier.

Vic, be careful writing and using a fountain pen can be highly addictive...those things should come with a warning!!!

Yeah...after a couple days of use I think I might be getting it.
I have a couple questions re: the FP, but I'll post a new thread with those in a bit.

I think I'll also put my T. Mann on the balance in the lab to see if the masses listed here are close. That'll have to wait 'til Monday though...I don't really feel compelled to go in today just for that.

I think the weight is fine its just a matter of getting used to it.

It's kind of like wearing a DSSD for the first day....after a week you don't even notice it's on your wrist

OK, as promised, I put my pen on the analytical balance in the lab- here are the results:
Total: 62.823g
Cap: 24.436g
Barrel: 38.387g

So, close to what was posted earlier. I've found that it's most comfortable to use with out the cap posted. Seems to throw off the balance when posted. It really is quite comfortable to write with...enjoying it!
